HTC 8X and 8S global availability and a pricing hint

HTC 8X

We know that the HTC 8X Windows Phone is headed to AT&T, T-Mobile and Rogers Canada. We are now learning of additional global carriers and a hint at U.S. pricing.

According to HTC's press release posted on their UK site,

The Windows Phone 8X and 8S by HTC will be available beginning in November. Available through more than 150 carriers in 50+ countries, the Windows Phone 8X or 8S by HTC will be available from the world's top carriers including: United States: AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. Europe: Orange, O2 Telefonica, MTS, Three UK, T-Mobile, and Vodafone Asia-Pacific: Chunghwa Telecom, Optus, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel), Smartone, Telstra and Vodafone Australia.

There wasn't any distinction as to which carrier will be getting which HTC device but it is nice to see Verizon mentioned.  Keep in mind though, we haven't seen confirmation from several of these carriers but the 8X's global availability does look promising.

As to the hint on pricing, the press release notes that U.S. pricing for the 8X will be $199.99* at AT&T and T-Mobile. If this price holds true, it is likely after two-year contractual discounts.

*Note: It is our understanding that the pricing point for the 8X was released in error and all involved are still scratching their heads on the final pricing point.  It could be more or it could be less.  Once we hear something from the carriers, we'll pass it on.

$199.99 before any discounts sounds like the right price point for the phones.... 920 and X8

JamesDax3 says:

Knowing T-Mobile it will be $199.99 after a $50 MIR.  Still, not bad.

Racerx1234 says:

Any guess as to the outright price for this?

Gurggles says:

$599 seems more likely. That is what the titan 2 went for.

Brazil?? Any news??

ExcaliburII says:

Look at getting the 8S for my wife (she likes colored phones), and the 920 for myself by the looks of it.
a more direct comparison for HTC Nokia would kinda be the 8X vs. the 820 imo.

PenguinWP says:

820 has awful 800x480 screen, completely unacceptable for a flagship phone (which it's not). You can only compare the 8X with the 920, and decide which flagship WP8 you want.

Jonadam23 says:

$199 While not a terrible price isn't that great. The One X costs half of that and the phones are fairly similar specs wise as well as material wise. $99 would be the right price in my opinion. As for the 8S, that should be 49.99 to 29.99, and of course free would be even better. Hopefully this comes to verizon with a 32GB model because I doubt the 920 will :/ This will be my next phone if the 920 doesn't land on verizon's shores. My trophy has served me well but I desperately want a top teir device!

MastrMeatWad says:

Did the one x start out at $99? I thought it released $199, and after being out dropped to $99? Which is common, they always drop in price after a month or two

$199 is average, only reason the one-x was price dropped was because it wasn't selling well. Stop begging for a free phone. Its cheaper to buy them outright anyway

Another sad day for Sprint customers.

jasqid says:

I am in the middle of a # port from sprint to Verizon. The lack of wp is one thing and their slow data the next. I hope I can change an iPhone 5 for an HTC or Nokia 8 when they launch on red.

lubbalots says:

HTC 8x will be a hot seller. Its available on 3 of 4 US carriers. With the 8x announcement today, Nokia is going to have a tough road ahead.

Wow, just catching up on the news for HTC's offerings! Very nice!

Nice to see HTC stepping it up a notch on design and handling of Windows Phone. I hope that they have seen Nokia's success with the color options.

It's gonna be great to see how well all of these phone options are promoted this fall on release. I really hope people take notice!

OK, mon, back to my island for some more rum! *Greetings from Jamaica!*

Dethzilla says:

It doesn't matter what they launch at... Amazon will have them for 1 penny on Black Friday.

wpguy says:

Happy to see HTC hitting so many carriers, especially in US. Nokia, whatcha got to say about that?

dtrush says:

Still waiting for definitive Verizon news on all of these WP8 handsets. I am excited about the possibility of 8x on Verizon though the 16gb memory isn't expandable. I have been so used to my 32gb Arrive;)
I think I *could* manage with 16gb but I'll look to 920 if it comes on Verizon. I keep waiting every day to hopefully find out where all these phones are going. Please get at least one flagship Verizon! We don't care what the price is!

IsTrooper2 says:

Wooo, Singapore. But I kinda want the 920 instead, so ill just wait

MattLFC says:

The 8X will have to be £100 cheaper than the 920 to tempt me away from the Nokia, and even then, reservations about ongoing handset support from HTC and exclusive Nokia apps, as well ad commitment to the platform, would generally still push me towards the Nokia. I live my 710 and though its not perfect (no phone is), I rarely see bitching about Nokia handsets and Nokia support from users, but a lot of peeps with HTC and Sammy handsets, dont have much faith, and many complaints. Besides which, the camera on the 920 may prove the breaking point.

zacman says:

Will wait three months until they get sold for 250€ unlocked like all WP before...

niyoko says:

Looks like there is no major Japanese carriers on that list. The iPhone and Android is just having a field day with the Japanese market. DoCoMo looks to have some Windows Phones coming for their Winter 2012/2013 line up, but with the special code names that they are using, such as "NH01" for an unknown Nokia device, we have no idea what is being released.
