HTC Windows Phone 8X Review

Windows Phone Central's review of the HTC 8X - a powerful yet sleek Windows Phone 8 device

While the Windows Phone 8 launch spotlight has shined brightly on the Nokia Lumia 920, there's another Windows Phone that has been lurking in the shadows. The HTC 8X launched over at AT&T on the same day and is a respectable Windows Phone within its own right.

The 8X is fitted with a 4.3" Super LCD screen, NFC (Near Field Communication), BEATS Audio, and an 8MP camera with BSI sensor (helps with low-light performance. The 8X is noticeably narrower than the Lumia 920 and reminds me of how the Samsung Focus Flash compared to the Focus S.

If you prefer a more compact Windows Phone, the HTC 8X isn't a bad choice.

The HTC 8X, Nokia Lumias and Samsung ATIV S are to be pushed by the carrier TIM in Italy. The latter is priced at €599 and is subsidised by TIM on the 300 €20/month plan or €10/month with the All Inclusive 700/1500 plan. Both are 30 month contracts, which is a little over the two year deals we are generally used to in Europe.

HTC and T-Mobile US have both today announced a partnership to provide children with life threatening illnesses and their families the opportunity to visit the Give Kids The World Village (givekidstheworld.org) and spend some time at the nonprofit "storybook" resort. Starting this Friday (November 23rd) through December 31st, those who purchase a HTC 8X from a T-Mobile authorised retailer will have the option to donate $1 of their purchase to Give The Kids World.

This is to help the donation pool to grow up to $75,000 and unlock the potential to provide an invaluable opportunity for a multitude of families. It's fitting that a Windows Phone 8 handset is used in this promotion for the charity as it sports Kid's Corner - a unique feature that enables parents to control exactly what their children have access to on the mobile device.

The Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X Windows Phones are fitted with some really nice cameras.  While it may be a topic for discussion on which camera is the better of the two, we've got two WPCentral Forums discussions going on that nicely shows off the capabilities of these two Windows Phone cameras.

We have some fantastic shots being shared over in the forums like the one above was taken by Sahkolihaa with the Lumia 920 of a sunrise in England.  You can find the Nokia Lumia 920 photo sharing discussion here and the HTC 8X photo sharing discussion here.  If you have a favorite photo taken with your new Lumia 920 or 8X, head on over to the forums and show them off.  We've got a few more pics after the break.

Verizon has published a new video on its YouTube channel, an advertisement for the new Windows Phone 8X by HTC. The title "Ummm/Ohh" pretty much sums up the entire commercial, which we expect to see on the big screen shortly with the launch of the Windows Phone already in full effect.

Nokia is not the only game in town when it comes to Windows Phone 8 as HTC is doing an admirable job with their Windows Phone 8X offering. And although Verizon began selling both the Lumia 822 and 8X this week, it appears that these phones are in tight supply.
