Indicators point to the Nokia Lumia 800 selling well
We only recently covered Nokia's statement about sales of the Lumia and what the mission is for the manufacturer, and now we have some indications to back the positive statement published by the company. For starters, we can see in the above shot that Vodafone UK is selling the Lumia 800 (our review) in both black and cyan (pre-order) well enough for them to be sitting in 2nd and 3rd place behind the disappointing iPhone 4S. Not only that but take a look at the customer review rating for the iPhone 4S, and now look at the black Lumia 800.
It's odd to see a Windows Phone top Blackberry handsets, since the RIM corporation is extremely popular with our teenagers for BBM. On the other hand, it's pretty soul destroying for Android with the Samsung Galaxy S II lagging behind. The Dutch carrier, KPN, has the handset up high against the iPhone 4S and Android devices too. The sheer scale of marketing carried out by Nokia appears to be paying off should you take these indicators into consideration.
In Germany, the Lumia 800 is proving to be popular on O2 (see the shot above) and is beating all other handsets, with the HTC Titan not far behind. If this information is anything to go by, Nokia were right to be positive in the statement they released, combating analysts who were putting down the launch as not being successful enough. The interest carriers and shops received on launch day was good, and now we have visual confirmation that the Lumia 800 is a popular choice.

I think it is too early to say 'if Nokia did it'. As far as I can tell, they're just getting started... :)

Just an observation: the iPone gets about 3.5 stars on the Vodafone UK site, aswell as on the WMPU screenshot while it shows 3 stars on the WPC screenshot.
monotok says:
Well when i looked just now the Iphone had 13 reviews and the lumia had 9.
So if one customer put a 5 star review then it would up it quite a lot, it was at 4 when i just looked.
salival says:
The last review was posted on the 18th; probably well before this article was written. It is highly unlikely the score has changed in the past few days.
For good order, I'm not trying to discredit WPC but I just noticed the difference. (I certainly have a healty aversion for Apple. :) )

It sold out on Expansys UK website :-)

Probably the screenshot was taken at different times, now I see the iPhone at 3.6 stars. Funny thing is I cannot see the Nokia at all in the list...

When will it come to Sweden?
I have three friends that are on hold for buying new phones until this comes to Sweden. Please Nokia give us a date!

Sales could even improve in the Netherlands. Because mainstream marketing was next to none so far, AFAIK. Some general Microsoft family ads started a few weeks ago. Nothing specific about Windows Phone or Nokia. Only a few days ago I saw the first Nokia Lumia ad on TV.
However, there's a large active Dutch tweakers community. Nokia and Microsoft were smart enough to invite a selection of ‘tweakers’ and Nokia users for a demonstration and a test period. Those 40 people were surprised to learn they could keep their Lumia. If they would be so kind not to sell it and publish a review. And reviews were good..

So it seems current sales are also thanks to these kind of events, other social media and retail presence. The Phone House where I got the last one of the three they had, had some carton Lumia boxes stacked up in the middle of the store. The salesman told me he did not know much about the Lumia or Windows Phone. But he liked what he saw and was eager to attend his training.

I don't think this article or the screen shot of Vodafone's UK site is reliable.
The only way I could get the iPhone showing next to the two Lumia 800 phones, was to choose "Apple, Nokia" and sort by "Most Popular" if you then selectively check Samsung and HTC you'll get the kind of display this article talks about with Samsung Galaxy SII. But this may not be duplicatable. (The second time I tried it, I got about 4 iPhones displaying in order before the Nokia Lumia 800) I think the filters on the Vodofone site are inaccurate.
I checked "Nokia" and "Smartphones" and sort by "Most Popular" and all I got was a "Nokia C3 Pink" and "Nokia C3 Slate" (???)
I thought the Lumnia 800 was a "Smartphone"?
Conclusion: Don't trust this WPCentral article, or the Vodafone UK website for "Popularity" stats of the "Lumia" handsets.

I find that rather odd... as when I click on the source link at the end of the article for Vodafone, this one:
http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/catalog/phoneGridView.jsp?categoryId=cat70018
I'm taken directly to a page for most popular phones on Vodafone sorted by two criteria: 1) Plan is "pay monthly", and 2) all manufacturers. I've tried it 6+ times now, and I get the same results each time, with it showing an almost exact replica of the WPCentral screenshot (iPhone 4S first, with two Lumia 800s as the next two).
I suspect that you had to try pretty hard to not get the results that are shown there... and as the source is right at the end of the article, everyone can verify whether WPCentral's report should be trusted, or yours. I can verify their statements directly... so I think you are the source that shouldn't be trusted here.
engellion says:
No, I wasn't really trying that hard at all. Home page of Vodafone UK http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/index.htm then click on the big square on the front page that says "Our Ten Best Selling Smartphones" http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/top-10-selling-phones
The filter settings show "Top 10 Selling Phones" and "All" manufacturers and "Pay Monthly" Lumnia is not even on the page. I can only guess this is because "Top 10" means total sales, not weekly or monthly sales. However, the description says "If you’re looking for a new smartphone, see which ones are CURRENTLY proving to be the most popular." So I can't be sure. Now I challenge you to try and get the Nokia Lumia to display in the top 3 most popular handsets behind the iPhone from this point, using all the filter options that are available to you on the page
On the other hand, if you choose "Mobile phones" from the top menus on the home page, then choose "Pay monthly phones" you WILL get the displayed screenshot as given in the article. http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/all-phones?initialFilters=flt_paymonthly But is this trustworthy?
Lets see. On the "Sort by" filter, choose to sort by "Manufacturer". All good. Now choose to sort by "Most popular" again and tell me what you get. It's quite confusing. From this point of filtering the handsets, I have not been able to find a way to display the intial view, with the Lumia in the first 3 handsets behind the iPhone, without going back to the "Mobile phones" menu at the top and choosing "Pay monthly phones" again. Hence I would not rely on what I see in the initial filters as a reliable guide to "popularity" of the Lumia handsets.
Still, it is great to see that the Lumia 800 is being featured on the Vodafone UK home page, and in the header image. My guess is it is a marketing drive to put the Lumia 800 in the first 3 handsets behind the iPhone if you click through to the "Pay Monthly" page via the home page menu.
I stand by my original comment: Don't trust this WPCentral article or Vodafone UK's website for "Popularity" statistics on the Lumia 800.

Please, please make the full text of the post available in the RSS or Atom feeds from your site. Don't make me to open a web browser to read the rest of the post!!!
MarkAllett says:
I'd expect WPCentral to be funded by adverts. Therefore the RSS feed has to act at a teaser to bring people to the site to view the adverts etc.. If the RSS feed has the full text then you're kinda viewing it for free and denying WPCentral the revenue from ad impressions. Just my opinion, I dunno for sure if this is the case.

The German financial Times quotes two mobile operaters in Germany saying that the Lumia 800 sells much worse than expected. On t-mobile sales stats it is only 6th though there are a lot of commercials for it on television. Nokia share lost about 10% because of the bad sales reporting.

Here's the link to the article http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/92016d3e-1064-11e1-8010-00144feabdc0.html. You only mentioned the small snipet about the two unnamed mobile operators. The article did not state anything about T-Mobile sales stats. Where's your link to that information? I have a hard time believing that the share price drop was because of the information you have stated. You mean share prices have not been dropping lately due to Euro debt fear?
MarkAllett says:
I don't want to piss on anyone's chips but I'd expect that "Sort by most popular" not to be based on sales, but based on page impressions per phone on the site.
