Instagram alternative EyeEm hits the Marketplace

EyeEm for Windows Phone

EyeEm is a photo-sharing app, much like Instagram, for your Windows Phone. However, unlike Instagram EyeEm is available for the iPhone, Android devices, through a web portal and on Windows Phone. This gives EyeEm a potentially larger user base than Instagram which means you can find more users with similar photographic interests.

EyeEm allows you apply ten photo filters (or none if you prefer) to existing photos in your Pictures Hub or to photos just captured by your Windows Phone camera. Filters range from sepia to magic to strawberry. From there you can share your images on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Tumblr.

EyeEm

Along with capturing, editing and sharing your photos EyeEm lets you browse photos from other EyeEm users. There is a search engine to search for photos or photographers by keyword, an Albums page that highlights random and "liked" photographic subjects (fashion, retro, etc.), and a Popular page that shares... well... the popular images on EyeEm.

From the settings you can create/edit your user profile and manage all your account connections. EyeEm does tap into your location services to help find pictures from users in your area and can tap into your People Hub to identify contacts who are EyeEm users.

Just tinkering with EyeEm for a short time, it comes across as an impressive photo sharing and social app for your Windows Phone. It may be strong enough to make you forget about Instagram.

EyeEm is a free app for your Windows Phone and you can grab it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Thanks everyone for the tip!

The app Fhotoroom is the same thing but with more filters. Try it, it's awesome!

kidjenius says:

this is true. we've had fhotoroom for a while now and it's GREAT. it's a windows phone exclusive!

Yes, I love fhotoroom! I'll try this one out as well, but with fhotoroom I'm not even worried about instagram.

but if it a social sharing app, shouldn't it best to be cross platform so that everyone can use it

Potential yes, reality not so much. Eye'em currently has 84 reviews (4/5) in the iOS app store, Instagram 21,946 (5/5). The key for an app like this is the social interaction - size matters. Sure things can change but right now WP is not enough to help Eye'em and where it competes with Instagram Eye'em is a distant also ran.

It posted my location as well as the picture. Do not like.

Hey guys, give some love to Fhotoroom, WP exclusive, those guys should be rewarded for betting in our OS of choice, and the app is very good!

Fhotoroom is a great app, tons of filters! Lot of great shots, people have uploaded to the site. I really didn't know it was a WP exclusive though.

So I don't get the whole instagram thing. Edit photos & upload for friends or followers. WP has that native support. I use thumba to edit, filter & what not, then just upload. What's all the hoopla about?

I like it, it does a nice job. @Gemini Ace before you post a picture hit the x by the location and I don't think it shows the location.

This app doesn't look like the filters are so good. The best 'Instagram alternative' that I've found is an app called Tuding.

Its available on Windows Phone, iOS, Android and more! The web service is way better than Instagram's, it will geo-tag your photos and save them to your phone (as well as uploading).

Only downside is that it's Chinese. Whilst the app has been translated, you'll get a lot of comments that you can't read. What's more, the server (which I guess is in China) can be slow to reach.

Still, its a better app than Fhotoroom and seems better than EyeEm.

It certainly isn't instagram but it is still a good app and its nice to always find an app that is available on miltiply platforms. Windows is a great OS hopefully the user base will keep climbing and more apps will become available to us.
