Live Mesh mobile client now live

Remember how we mentioned our excitement over Microsoft's Live Mesh mobile client? It's been released (along with the Mac client).

From the Live Mesh blog:

We are delighted to release our client software for Mac OS X (10.5.1 or higher) and Windows Mobile (6.0 and 6.1). Because these are both significant new software investments for us, we’re going to only provide them on a limited basis for now (and mobile is restricted to only US or UK to start.) If you get a message saying that we’re at full capacity for these clients, keep an eye on the blog here. We’ll post updates as we increase availability over the coming months.

Catch that? It's out on a limited basis, at least at first, and only available in the U.S. (here) and U.K. (here). If you're already using Live Mesh, log in to your account and add the mobile client.

In other LM news, the WAP access, about which we've previously reported, is now an official feature. Check out the rest of the update features here.

We'll have more on the mobile client in the near future. In the meantime, check out a video after the jump from the Live Mesh team.

Update: I've got it loaded on the phone just fine. Looks like just a true client of what we've already seen from m.mesh.com. Catch is, it won't connect. And there doesn't appear to be any way to re-enter your username and password, which is bad. But I don't think that's my problem. (Patience, however, is.)

Hey Phil,
According to this thread
... the mesh team seem to be aware of the problem... can't wait to take this thing for a spin.

What? It's just a true client of what we've seen at m.mesh.com? Wow, that is really lame. I was hoping for a mounted drive on my phone. Even though I can't get it working (SQL error), I'm no longer excited about this.

Not quite sure yet, because it's not yet working. But that's my early guess. Could well be wrong. But I would definitely prefer a native client over a mobile web page. What? sparhawk6, it's not a mounted drive on a desktop, so why would it be on a phone? That's not the way it works, and doesn't make it any less useful. If it's the same as the client on a desktop, I'm guessing you'll be able to synchronize folders in your mesh to any location you choose on your phone. In my opinion, that's better than a separate mounted drive because you could for example synchronize music to the folder on your device where media player looks for music, or synchronize your favorites to the folder where your browser looks for favorites, etc.

maybe I'm just doing it wrong... but I can't seem to get the mesh client loaded onto my BlackJack 1 with a hacked version of WM6.1. I tried downloaded the cab file via the link below but it did not install successfully. Is there something I'm not picking up on?
Once I found out that they were putting more research into this feature, I jumped right on the train. I love this idea, and I can't wait to get it working. Especially since I own more than one Microsoft device :)

How weird... before when I went to the described web address above to get the .cab file to load onto my phone, it would download the cab and not install... now I get a "403 Forbidden"!?!? but only on my phone. What's going on here!?

yay it works.. it won't connect via WiFi though which is a real bummer. i am on a capped data plan :(

It logs in and says that Live Mesh Mobile is only avalable to a limited number of users at this time and I am not one of them :(

I can log into the mobile website... but not the application installed on my Blackjack.

I get the same error

Worked like a charm for me on my WM 6.1 Tilt. No problems whatsoever. This is good stuff.
