In a new promotional video, Microsoft's People Hub Program Manager, simply referred to as Greg, discusses some of the new features that users will find in Mango and the motivation behind them. Greg explains that it is not only important for a phone to deliver communications by phone, text, email and social media, but to tie them all together. With that in mind, Mango will tote a new Contact History in the People Hub. As shown in the video, all you have to do is click on a contact to see a list of all recent communications by that contact, regardless of what medium they came from. Simply tap on that entry, and you will be transported to that app and conversation.
Another cool feature described is live contact notifications on the Start screen. If you have a contact pinned to Start, and they send you an email or chat, you will now see an update on their tile letting you know you have a new message from them. Tap the tile, and find their new message in the history.
We all know that Mango is bringing some big changes to WP7. However, another thing that excites us is all of these thoughtful little tweaks and attention to detail that have been added.

Doesnt seem like you will get a notification if you get a new tweet or facebook message, still have to manually check that. That needs to be changed.
If someone comments on a photo of you in Facebook -- you will get a notification on your "me" tile with Mango. Not sure about Twitter stuff for obvious reasons. But yeah, if you use facebook as "email" -- those message don't appear to be built into the OS yet.
I'm thinking of when your phone is locked, you will get text, email and IM audio notifications but it doesnt seem like any other notification type will alert you unless you unlock your phone and view your start screen. That would be more useful I think.
If you get a FB chat message, you will receive a notification in the messaging tile. If someone writes on your wall, no message on the tile, but a message will pop up from the FB app, so your covered.
I like what I saw in this video. Being able to view the tile and know I have a new message, e-mail or Facebook update will be great. Twitter integration will follow, I assume, when Mango is released. I don't think it was ready at the time this video was done. The more I hear the more I cannot wait for Mango!! Yippie!!
Looking good. MS is smart to push the peoplecentric orientation of Mango vs the appcentric consume stuff from the all white fruit army. Can't wait 'till Fall.
You know, I wish the history also had our FB history (i.e. wall posts, comments, photos in which we're both tagged). Kind of like the "See Friendship" thing of desktop Facebook.
If I am understanding what you are saying correctly, you basically already have most of that in Me.
I thought the People hub was going to be more of a one stop shop for Facebook and Twitter, however without notifications that is not possible. You will still need to have the crappy Facebook app which doesn't even let you view photos now. Why even have a wall on the People hub? They boast such deep Facebook integration, but I am really not seeing it. Still no way to like specific comments within a thread on People or the FB app, and the People hub has a character limit when writing a status or commenting.
Awesome!!!! How can I get that music for my ringtone? I love that music. The City ringtone in the Mango beta is close.
