Fix for Metrotube coming soon and the next version is almost ready

We still lack an official YouTube app on Windows Phone, but have some solid third party offerings. Metrotube and myTube are the two YouTube apps constantly vying for a spot on your Start screen. However, Metrotube hasn’t been updated since last July and some users are reporting that videos won’t play. Good news though, not only is a fix on the way for Metrotube users experiencing issues, but a beta for the next release is about to take place. Details after the break.

A few tweets from the Lazyworm Apps account shows that there’s a fix coming for users not getting videos to play on Metrotube. Music videos seem to be particularly affected with whatever is ailing Metrotube.

So a fix is coming for Metrotube, but a beta is also ready for testing. If you’re interested in joining the Metrotube beta all you need to do is send an email to info at lazywormapps dot com two things: your Microsoft Live ID and your username for Trello.

You’re not alone if you’ve been wondering why Lazyworms Apps hasn’t updated Metrotube for quite some time. What’s the holdup? Well if you go to their website you’ll see that they do a lot more than build third-party YouTube clients for Windows Phone. They build sweet ‘metro-style’ apps on both Windows Phone and Windows 8. Basically contract work for big companies. In fact, another tweet says they’ve been busy working with “some very big brands” to bring their apps to Windows 8.1. We can live with that delay.

Premium content. Will read again.

'Details after the break'.
Sound silly in this kind of media.
Not nice and completely unnecessary.

Lipe13 says:

But that line is displayed on the main page, so you have to open the link to the article to read it. So it is a break... I find it to be very nice.

mrappbrain says:

Uninformed comment. If you knew that Google doesn't allow websites to show ads interrupting content without placing such lines otherwise risking lowering of PageRank, you wouldn't say that. Google seems to think that sites which show ads interrupting content are fooling their customers into believing that you need to visit the ad for more info, hem d the statement.

She does. But why did she leave MN? I miss those Monday Briefs.

You got that right!

Lazyworm updated Tweeteo for 8.1 today.

mdram says:

Yeah, what's my Trello ID?  Is that what I use to login to MT?

tpitts15 says:

yea, what's trello?

josb143 says:

Same problem here, would join the beta if I knew what that is

schlubadub says:

Go to It's just a task-tracking system. People create boards, and can pin tasks/notes etc to them. Tasks can be assigned to people and you can see when items get completed. Depending on permissions, you can assign tasks, make comments etc. I assume the developer will share his Metrotube project tasks with people and you will get automatic notifications as he completes them. There's an unofficial app too, Trellizzo

josb143 says:

Thanks for the explanation. I saw the website but I wasn't sure if it was the right one

nanddeep333 says:

Really Lazyworm are too lazy for giving update

RaRa85 says:

Can't wait. I know it's gonna be big.

schlubadub says:

That's what she said! :)

KKRLessey says:

And that's what he said!

RaRa85 says:

Ha ha she did say that. :p

cnshenj says:

Was a Metrotube user. But now myTube has earned a spot on my start screen. It does everything I need from a YouTube app, beautifully!

TrustySnooze says:

Same here. I've moved on.

I wouldn't touch mytube for the longest time, and used metrotube, but I had to move on.

Westoncreg says:

I switch between the two almost every update to be honest :P

YouTube HD I think is the best! Most used most underrated and under supported by big players like wpcentral aggravates me!

DennisvdG says:

I'm looking at the screenshots and it just looks like a knock off of metrotube, not sure which one was released first though

anon5351951 says:

Metrotube was. You're right, YoutubeHD is a total knockoff, and an ugly one at that.

Can't wait, MetroTube on HTC 8X and Surface 2. Beautifull apps, love the design.

Metrotube is thee original third party app...and will always be on my lumia screen...mytube sucks and it costs money.

I first used lazytube before it was renamed metrotube

schlubadub says:

Yeah, I still have both installed... As well as Supertube and HTC YouTube. I tend to just use the mobile website now haha

What's HTC YouTube like?

schlubadub says:

Pretty basic... a lot of the features don't work anymore as it hasn't been updated for a long time. But you can still search for videos and watch them, switch between HQ etc. I don't think you can even see or add comments. HTC seems to have given up updating any of their apps.

euichii says:

You know about the unlimited trial for mytube right?..

Mytube shits on metrotube.

Blkacesvf41 says:

God I miss Ashley!

chmun77 says:

Actually I do have problems trying to play videos over the mobile networks. It works flawlessly on WIFI, but just can't seem to start any videos once I'm connected to mobile network. Anyone else facing same issues?

nanddeep333 says:

I think is also depend on carrier network. Frist I would use metrotube on my first carrier, but when I ported my muber on other carrier network now metrotube doesn't work, even I can't open YouTube site from IE or other browsers

chmun77 says:

Hmm. But why will carriers be affecting an app? Is just weird. But I guess you are right because beside MetroTube, My Tube and other youtube apps can't work at all when on mobile network. I'm not sure why but it's just frustrating and seems like things like these only happen on Windows Phone.

Duduosf says:

Though I primarily use myTube, I am eager to see what this next 'beta version' is all about. Might send an email, after all.

mrvhin1216 says:

Pretty sure I'll be waiting for this! Love Metrotube!

YouTube HD I think is the best!

Edipose says:

I hope they add suggestions when searching a video.

MaulerX says:

Mytube won me over. Their interface totally rocks. It's super slick.

JoRdaNeK says:

Is anyone else's metrotube on 8.1 crap? Directs me to desktop and cant search anymore :(

trmnrs says:

Yay! For a sec I thought LazyWorm abandoned the app.

jaymin00 says:
....this is link for 512 mb subway i don't know how to get permission to download app.can anybody help me?

Aashish13 says:

It isnt optimized by kiloo yet. I suggest you not to download it

l520user says:

If u look at their twitter account someone told them of this and kiloo contacted the ppl in charge to block the download

jaymin00 says:

They shouldn't block it,developer has done what kiloo can't do.

Aashish13 says:

Im unable to download it. I think they have blocked it.

andy21andy says:

Mytube all the way! Woot!

MrGoodSmith says:

If a youtube app can't show captions and annotations, its worthless to me

wetworker says:

I hope they fix MetroTube for windows 8.1. Mine just keeps crashing or freezes up when I login.

ZuNuKoo says:

I just wonder why this app still uses data even for playing back downloaded (preloaded) videos. I wasted half of my data because of that. I realize I have to turn off my data connection then when I run the app it says connection not available. I can play my offline videos just fine after that. Could anyone fix that problem? Thank you.

QilleRz says:

Good news. Been wondering too why MetroTube has no update.

I hoped on to Mytube as beta tester... ended up buying the app just because.  Certainly worth the money imo.  Found the interface to be a tad better than Metrotube.  Frankly I'm fine with these 3rd party choices.

Markmk says:

Aboot time....

Laion says:

Metrotube for Windows 8 is much Better than any YouTube app for iPad.

Marco Gomes1 says:

Excellent news. Metrotube is my fav YouTube app.

DenisSuncity says:

The biggest problem with 3rd party apps is that their lifespan depends on official app. Not that official will be much better (6tag best example), but it can block access.

eddp77 says:

YouTube HD works fine for me !

Kenny G Jr says:

I miss Supertube.
