They’re the group responsible for the PMA wireless charging, a competitor to the Qi wireless standard that so many of you Windows Phone users are very familiar with. However, many technology companies are PMA members. Organizations like Huawei, BlackBerry, LG, Samsung, Qualcomm, Sony, Toshiba, AT&T and Starbucks all hold PMA membership. Microsoft can add another feather to its IP licensing hat, having now signed Motorola Solutions up for a licensing agreement. That's not Motorola Mobility, the portion of Motorola bought by Google and now being sold to Lenovo that makes handsets such as Moto X and Moto G, as well as Verizon's Droid line. No, Motorola Solutions is the other Motorola, the part left behind after Google snapped up the smartphone half of the company. And they apparently have eyes on the mobile devices market, with this agreement covering devices running both Android and Chrome OS.

Nokia sale to Microsoft expected to close on April 25

It was nearly eight months ago that Microsoft and Nokia announced a deal to sell Nokia's Devices and Services unit to Microsoft for €5.44 billion (US$7.3 billion), and this week that deal is finally going to close. Friday, April 25th, will see Nokia Devices and Services transferred to Microsoft and renamed as Microsoft Mobile Oy.

Nokia and Microsoft have sent out an email to customers today detailing alterations (namely, the transfer) made to data protection, privacy and service terms. This is all due to the sale of Nokia's devices and services division to Microsoft, which both parties expect to complete by the end of this month. There's not a whole lot of information contained in the email, but it's nice to know Microsoft will take care of your data just as well as Nokia.

Essentially, you shouldn't expect to see any changes to how your data is collected and what it's used for.

Tech giants like Apple and Microsoft have pushed for reform of the US patent system after being involved in a multitude of legal actions over patents, but now they're pushing to slow reform. Apple and Microsoft are teaming up with Ford Motor Company, DuPont, General Electric, Pfizer, and IBM for the Partnership for american Innovation, which aims to convince members of the United States Congress to dial back some of their proposals on patent reform in order to protect their own patents.

Hot on the heels of Microsoft officially announcing Windows Phone 8.1, the SDK Development Tools are now available for download. The Windows Phone emulator has also been updated to handle Windows Phone 8.1. All which in preparation for the eventual release of the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK.

The Windows Phone 8.1 development tools are included with Visual Studio 2013. If you already have Visual Studio 2013 installed, you’ll need to install Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 RC. Otherwise, you’ll need to install the Update 2 version from scratch.

Greenpeace has published a report on the renewable energy used by major internet companies, including those active in the mobile space. Topping the list is Apple, which apparently runs iCloud and iTunes on 100% green electricity. It’s got a massive solar farm powering its North Carolina data center, and plans for geothermal and solar power for its upcoming Nevada data center. Oregon and California data centers are already being powered through wind energy partners.

Last week it came to light that an ex-Microsoft employee had busted by the feds for leaking Windows 8. Microsoft was protecting their intellectual property, but came under fire for how they went about doing it. The ex-employee had shared sensitive Microsoft material to a leaker in France using Hotmail and SkyDrive. Microsoft received flak last week for an apparent invasion of privacy and has sent out a statement about corrective actions the company will be taking.
