Nokia and Microsoft have sent out an email to customers today detailing alterations (namely, the transfer) made to data protection, privacy and service terms. This is all due to the sale of Nokia's devices and services division to Microsoft, which both parties expect to complete by the end of this month. There's not a whole lot of information contained in the email, but it's nice to know Microsoft will take care of your data just as well as Nokia.

Essentially, you shouldn't expect to see any changes to how your data is collected and what it's used for.

Tech giants like Apple and Microsoft have pushed for reform of the US patent system after being involved in a multitude of legal actions over patents, but now they're pushing to slow reform. Apple and Microsoft are teaming up with Ford Motor Company, DuPont, General Electric, Pfizer, and IBM for the Partnership for american Innovation, which aims to convince members of the United States Congress to dial back some of their proposals on patent reform in order to protect their own patents.

Hot on the heels of Microsoft officially announcing Windows Phone 8.1, the SDK Development Tools are now available for download. The Windows Phone emulator has also been updated to handle Windows Phone 8.1. All which in preparation for the eventual release of the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK.

The Windows Phone 8.1 development tools are included with Visual Studio 2013. If you already have Visual Studio 2013 installed, you’ll need to install Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 RC. Otherwise, you’ll need to install the Update 2 version from scratch.

Greenpeace has published a report on the renewable energy used by major internet companies, including those active in the mobile space. Topping the list is Apple, which apparently runs iCloud and iTunes on 100% green electricity. It’s got a massive solar farm powering its North Carolina data center, and plans for geothermal and solar power for its upcoming Nevada data center. Oregon and California data centers are already being powered through wind energy partners.

Last week it came to light that an ex-Microsoft employee had busted by the feds for leaking Windows 8. Microsoft was protecting their intellectual property, but came under fire for how they went about doing it. The ex-employee had shared sensitive Microsoft material to a leaker in France using Hotmail and SkyDrive. Microsoft received flak last week for an apparent invasion of privacy and has sent out a statement about corrective actions the company will be taking.

A few days ago, Microsoft dropped the price of their Xbox One Titanfall bundle to $449.99. We are now receiving reports that the Microsoft has slashed $50 off their entire line of Xbox One units.

While the release of Windows Vista was plagued with burden and its legacy was remembered as such, one excellent feature to rise out of the wreckage has served its way through Windows 7 up to current day Windows 8 operating systems. Nokia and Microsoft both expect the acquisition of Nokia's handset unit to close in April. The two companies sent out their own press releases moments ago announcing an update on the acquisition. The regulatory process is expected to close sometime during next month. As we previously reported, the two companies had hoped to finish the deal sometime before mid-April. However, rulings in India and regulatory pause by Asian parties over potential patent abuse slowed the process.
