Microsoft releases Windows Phone 'Insider' app for n00bs

Microsoft this morning published a new app called Windows Phone Insider to the Marketplace. The tiny app is a great starting point for those new to the Windows Phone world though numerous features and tutorials. Here's what it can do:

  • Top picks - most popular apps in a genre (this week appears to be fitness)
  • Wallpapers - pulls down Bing images for use as wallpaper (nice)
  • Follow Us - Latest Facebook and Twitter posts from Windows Phone
  • Tour - short web tutorials on how to use your phone/make the most of it

The app is actually really slick and the Bing wallpapers feature is huge for many--it'swell worth the free download just for that option. Of course, we couldn't help but think this would be great on the phone to begin with, which makes us think that with the upcoming software update, you'll see this stock on your device after that first flash. Anyone wanna bet?

You can grab the app here in the Marketplace; Thanks, David M., for letting us know!

Not a noob, but as you said, Bing as wallpaper seemed like a killer feature so I downloaded it. I assumed that "pulls down" meant that it would auto update your wallpaper every day; it doesn't. Disappointing, and I'll be uninstalling it. Would LOVE for MS to add an option to automatically use the daily Bing image as wallpaper. Somewhat disappointed that it isn't built into the phone, as I don't find myself on the Search app too often. :(

I downloaded it and is pretty sweet! I would wish for Microsoft to do like drokkon said above. At least make it an option on WP7 where you can have the daily Bing image be your wallpaper for that day. It should change daily, obviously.
