Microsoft rolls out another update for the Xbox One

Xbox One

The Xbox team have announced the roll out of the latest update to hit Microsoft's next-gen video game console. We've previously looked at the update, which was tested by consumers to make sure everything is working as it should. There are numerous enhancements included so pop past the break to see what's new.

Game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will show you the status of your game saves. You will also be able to easily tell what games and apps are being updated or have been updated recently.

Friends improvements. Notifications will be added to see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. This was one of the most frequently requested features, so we made it a priority to include it in this update. Also, friends who are in multiplayer will be identified in the friends list.

Kinect voice and motion improvements will continue to be fine-tuned for quality and reliability of Xbox One commands. For example, we’ve updated some of the gesture functionality to reduce false positives on non-hand objects triggering gesture commands.

Improved GameDVR video quality through compression algorithm improvements.

Blu-ray player supports 50 Hz video output for content recorded at 50 Hz. We’ll also be updating the Blu-ray Player app in the coming days to round out these improvements.

Controller and headset adapter firmware updates will reduce audio static and improve wireless connectivity.

Silent reboot after system updates and system update on demand now available. If your console is in Instant On mode, the update will happen automatically and return to standby upon completion. This means you won’t need to power on your console after an update moving forward. If you want to take future updates when available without waiting for your console to do it on its own, we’ve added this option under system settings and you’ll be able to use it next update. It will only show as available when there is an update to take.

You should receive the update shortly, if you haven't already.

Microsoft rolls out another update for the Xbox One

In band new Action Centre, title read "Microsoft rolls out another update" and I got exited for a moment and thought it was an update for WP8.1 already :)

Go Settings from main screen of WPC app and activate Toast Notification, under live tile section.

Yes, as soon as you receive first notification from WPC app (or any app with notification switched on), it will appear under action centre settings and you can configure as you desire.

On topic, which is a rarity these days.... Sweet update for the Xbox One. Glad to see how much Microsoft has been working on making the console better and better. Haven't regretted my purchase once. Update after update after update makes the Xbox One a better buy.

Looking forward to the controller firmware update especially, I was having problems with using the chat adapter and others in my party hearing me echo. Flags knows what I'm talking about. Also, the improved friend notification will be welcomed!

I had forgotten about the controller update. I had some issues with disconnects in the middle of games after the last controller firmware update. This is most definitely a welcome update.

My only issue was that occasionally when watching cable TV the screen would freeze every few minutes which was really annoying. Did a reset yesterday and it seems to have resolved the issue. Anyone else experience this? Am on Rogers cable in Canada.

Hopefully the controller update will also stop my controller from going unresponsive in the middle of the game when I'm using the headphones adapter. I've lost many a good soldier in Titanfall to my controller wigging out on me and becoming unresponsive. Only thing that would fix it was to pull the battery.

Fixing those annoying pops and clicks in the audio will also be a welcome addition.

Why are the only three comments on this for Windows Phone 8.1?

On subject: This is great. I was hoping to get this update soon. I'm looking forward to friend notifications. I'm also hoping for the Kinect improvements to make voice recognition better. As it stands, the Kinect is better than the 360 Kinect but it still has about a 15-20% failure rate.

On the support site at Xbox.com it says last month's update is the latest one. That version is 6.2.10698.0. If you have anything higher than that,I assume you have the update. Would we get this update with a shut down to standby or do I have to power off completely? I had my Xbox on earlier and I don't know if I'd have to wait or not.

Can I just say that we shouldn't call this next Gen anymore. It was next green before PS4 and Xbox one came out. Now, I'm pretty sure it's current Gen. Or, if you prefer, new Gen.

Yeah. I love the new keyboard. It's fast, smooth and very accurate, but I keep making tiny mistakes like that.

Icurehanfovers beet me to it. I just found the update matrix on the xbox support site. The March 4th, 2014 update is this: 6.2.10698.0 (xb_rel_1403.140301-2200) fre. As he states the new update should be a larger integer.

Oh man, I do hope they finally fixed that "Xbox On" command!! Can somebody verify this? Won't be home for a while, will check this myself in the evening.

I know right? That's the ONLY command (at least for me) that is broken. The rest of the voice commands work like a charm.

maybe the fat guy who is listening and watching you through kinect is asleep or eating when you say "xbox on"... and he cant turn your xbox one on... but is this too bad? I think this is good, it means Microsoft doesn't listen or pay attention to you all the time, so you have some privacy with Kinect 2.

tinfoil hat ftw!

Any time someone posts the "I thought it was about WP" comment, its because they really thought it was about WP. Maybe, you guys should add a feature to filter out non-WP specific content for readers. Just a suggestion. I'm here for WP. Occasionally Win8. I'm curious about Xbox but I'm not a gamer and generally don't care.

As for being on topic, its good to see MS push out frequent updates and hopefully they'll continue this tend with WP regardless of poor market share.

As the writers have stated before, since this is a windows phone fan site, they write about all Microsoft products with a focus on Windows phone. A lot of us here live in the Microsoft ecosystem. This includes windows 8.1 and Xbox one. It's not like every other article written is about xbone or windows 8.1. It feels that way sometimes because there isn't a lot of news for windows phone. I bet during e3 we will see several pieces written about the Xbox one and few on Windows phone.

We writers don't have much input into the layout and features of the site. But every reader should know how to read headlines and then decide whether a story is of interest based on the headline. I don't feel sorry for anyone who can't handle that.

For windows phone, they have a lot more to consider. The fact that they have little control over the hardware side means they need to optimize as best they can for all hardware available. This makes updates take longer. With Xbox they know the hardware is never going to change this making it easier to fix something if they screw it up. If the OS created a bug on a Windows phone because of a bad optimization for a CPU, and it was released, it could take a while to figure that out. I like the slow roll outs. Gdr 2 & 3 incoming this year as well. That's good enough.

I wanna sign up for the Xbox developer preview so I can force these dang updates. LoL... Talk about a catch22.. This update allows you to check manually for updates AFTER its updated.. ARGG I've cold booted my Xbox1, I've unplugged it as well.. What else does an update whore gotta do?

Were they using it as part of the beta test, or since this update rolled out? I'm not sure if this update is all the other stuff with the one guide remaining beta

Voice commands seem to work much better after the newest update for me. Now make the OS more snappier when it comes to switching apps and loading their content.

Did they fix the reliability of the Xbox On command? And also, did you re-calibrated the Kinect again, or does the voice commands work better by themself after the update? Thanks for the info!

I hope that the Kinect update fixes an issue I have with my cat. The Kinect keeps thinking that his tail Iis a hand.

I was excited for a minute. Then I read what the update was and realized I have been testing it for the last month. Bummer.

Awesome that Microsoft is updating the Xbox one but, where the PHUCK is the Kinect extention cable that we were told that was going to be out months ago.

My Kinect is still sitting in the box with the plastic still on it, due to needing a 25' cable to use it and No options at all. So the Kinect is worthless in my setup now....

I got an invite from Microsoft to participate in the Xbox one system update preview program. But I am hesitant to do it. I have heard that you are unable to join party's and play with other normal people because of the different software. How true is this?

I have my Xbox in the low power standby mode. Can anyone tell me if it will notify me if it has updated when i turn it back on?
