Microsoft's Mango Truck is making the rounds in New York City

Who say's Microsoft isn't being creative or trying to market Windows Phone? On Monday they put a 55 foot giant Windows Phone in Herald Square, threw two hit parties and now there's an official Mango-truck making the rounds of AT&T stores.  From site fan electricbopeep, who was kind enough to send us these pics:

"After I recovered from the pleasant shock of such a sight, I asked the driver for the details. According to him, the truck will be making stops at ATT stores to celebrate the release of Mango hardware. The truck is serving mango-inspired street food to get everyone in the Mango spirit. Definitely more evidence of Microsoft's big marketing push - what a difference a year makes!"

Agreed. Microsoft is not only promoting their OS, they're doing in unique, eye-catching ways. We applaud. Heck, we saw the Radar 4G commercial on Xbox-Hulu last night too. Refreshing change and we're hoping to see even more from Microsoft in the coming weeks.

By the way, you can follow the Mango Truck here on Twitter: @CafeMangoToGo and see where they will be next!

First time i am seeing Microsoft seriously advertising wp7.I was at the NYC event and really liked people appreciating the new phones. Most of people in the party had iPhones and Android and thats a very good sign that people from other platforms are showing interest in wp7. The carriers and OEM should also contribute. If you go to the ATT site and click upgrade, the first thing it shows is "Upgrade to iPhone" and somewhere below in the corner is a link to "Upgrade to other phones". This is just not fair to WP7 platform. There is so much potential in the platform. In my office no one knows about a windows phone 7. They still relate it to the old platform.

Similarly, every time I logged into my Verizon account they had a button to upgrade to the iPhone within my account details. That always annoyed the **** out of me. I have a Trophy, I clearly do not want the damn iPhone!! I checked today and thankfully they finally removed that. About time but it never should have been there.Glad to see MS actually putting some effort into marketing and getting creative with it too!

That's awesome!Good job Microsoft!Keep it up!

If Microsoft keeps this up, when Tango comes out we'll all get dancing lessons.

I wonder if it plays the Mister Softee song while it drives around?

As an individual who wants to see the platform succeed, it’s frustrating watching Microsoft's refusal to place an effective ad on national TV, an ad that would reach far more people than its local marketing efforts in NYC. Having a team visit each AT&T store to push Win Phone to the reps is a great idea, but should be done on a national basis. None of this however can fulfill the need for a smashing TV commercial, broadcast nationally, that showcases Metro and its applications.

apparently the truck was in nj today, which makes sense since i saw it not too far from the tunnel. i think msft is going for national advertising as well and leveraging their partner and carrier r'ships to do so but i agree that there's room for improvement.
