Microsoft's Windows Phone monthly photo contest

Microsoft's Monthly Photo Contest - Favorite Places

Microsoft's Monthly Photo Contest - Favorite Places

Last month, Microsoft launched a monthly Windows Phone photo contest where the subject matter of the pictures changed from month to month.  It's a great opportunity to showcase our Windows Phone cameras. Last month the theme was pets and this month the theme shifts to favorite places.

Winning photos will be featured on the Windows Phone Blog and across Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest channels.

Send your photo entries to windowsphone@microsoft.com with information on which Windows Phone you used, any photo apps you used to edit the image and a two-three sentence description. Additional directions for entry submissions is as follows:

  • In the subject line of your e-mail, please write “CONTEST: FAVORITE PLACES”.
  • The photo you send must have been taken with and edited on a Windows Phone.
  • Please attach the original JPEG file to your e-mail, with metadata included. If the photo has been edited, please let us know which apps/settings you used.
  • Please name your file using your first and last name, followed by the theme of the contest (this month it’s “Pets”). So, for instance, my e-mail would include a photograph named DavidChenPets.JPG.
  • Please use the highest resolution possible when sending your photos.
  • One entry per person, please.

You can find all the contest rules here.

This month's contest runs until 11:59 p.m. PDT on Sunday, October 7, 2012. After the contest deadline, Windows Phone Blog officials will look over all of your entries and choose our favorites. Entries will be judged on their creativity, resourcefulness, aesthetic beauty, and just the overall impression your photo makes on us.

Microsoft had some great winning photos last month from the pet theme and it will be interesting to see all the images Microsoft will discover from our favorite places.

Damn, too bad the camera on the Lumia 900 sucks so badly. Puts me at an automatic disadvantage.

ggonzalez777 says:

Really? I've had so much success after the update, the pictures are stunningly better.

@Flann..the issue is the user, not the camera ;-)  http://www.flickr.com/groups/lumia900/

Heck, even I can pull of some decent shots. Just practice.

WilliamC1972 says:

After the update your camera should be pretty good.

Fiann says:

Mine isn't. Still having horrible tint issues. Every picture has at least some degree of blue tint to it.

When you have the camera on, show it to the light to sort of reset the white balance. I have this problem and showing the camera to a bright light appears to reset the white balance so it takes a proper picture. My white balance is on AUTO, what I mean by reset is that it will make the camera auto detect the white balance again.

They do allow you to use apps to edit them some.  I used Thumba Photo Editor to remove some of the noise off of the picture.

I have a great pic on my Lumia 900.  Too bad you cannot rename photos from within WP7.5.  I'll just have to remember to enter when I get home.

ExcaliburII says:

what about uploading file to skydrive, changing the name there...then attaching from thre also.  all on the phone:)

zaidthunder1 says:

Is it even possible to change the file name of the phone itself?

I've been taking great shots with my Lumia 900!

George, you need to edit the story to meet this months guidelines. The file should be named "favoriteplaces" not "pets". Copy and paste is fine, provided you edit the important info.
