Mobile Nations fitness month week 3: Sleep and relaxation!

It's February and you know what that means? Mobile Nations Fitness Month! That's when we all get together to get in shape, share tips and tricks and recipes for success, review amazing apps and accessories, give away great prizes, and have a ton of fun! This year we're doing it a little differently, though. We're doing weekly themes, and that means every week you'll have new and exciting challenges, and new chances to win!

Week 2: Sleep and relaxation!

Relaxation, whether its full on mediation or just some simple breathing exercise, is how we keep our bodies and minds centered and balanced. Sleep is our reboot, when we write our daily cache to disk and run our system repairs so we're ready for the next day.

As part of fitness month, we'll be reviewing a bunch of great apps and accessories that can help encourage, track, and train us to sleep and relax better and smarter. We'll also be doing THREE cool contests!

Resting Up contest

First is our Resting Up contest. Every day this week there'll be a thread in our health and fitness forums, and all you have to do to enter is tell us how you slept, napped, meditated, or did your breathing during the day. The idea is to get a little community pressure going so we all sleep and rest better and get healthier. If you have a food tracker, app, or anything else that helps you out, you can simply share your results each day!

This is a great way to keep us all motivated and accountable, and get a little healthy peer-pressure going! Plus, every day you enter is a chance to win a $20 gift certificate!

Resting MY Way contest

Second is our Nutrition MY Way contest. Just head on over to Resting MY Way thread in the forums and tell us how you use your mobile device, your phone or tablet, to sleep and rest better. What are your favorite apps? Yoga? Meditation? White noise? What are your go to accessories? We want to know! Tell it to us in the form of a story, like a blog post. We'll post the best entries on Friday, so get them in ASAP! Need more incentive? We'll pick one winner a week and send them a $100 gift certificate!

My goal this month is to add in some strength training into my routines. I already do a lot of cardio via walking 3-4 times weekly and officiating HS sports 2-3 times weekly, so I don't need too much other workout, but adding in some pushups and situps every morning will change it up so that I can drop the Christmas 5 I've been carrying around the last couple of months.

My target is to use nike+ kinect to meet as many achievements of both my own and of the game! A fitbit would mean i could continue this outside the house!

Dropping 8 pounds and running at least twice a week! A fitbit would be a welcome aid.

My goal would be to complete the training program from one of the apps you've sugested in an earlier post, called 'Six Week Training'. Nice app, and it has lots of helpful tips also. And as a side-goal = to ditch pepsi completly. I think this one will be harder

I achieved my goals last year, lost ~50 pounds using ea sports active2 + kinect, that and dieting; dropped from 192 - 145.  The last 8 months I've been doing heavy strength training and cardio with weightvests and put on about 15 pounds of muscle.

My goals are still to lose weight and be healthy and happy.  For sleep I have found nothing better than MyZeo. i track my sleep every night with my FitBit and MyZeo.

The goal is to make the 3 major goals coming this summer. I'm one of 12 participants who have been challenged to run 3.1 miles, 1 month later, I'm bike riding for 33 miles and the week after I will be in the Triathlon, and I'm not in the best shape these days. I'll start next monday for the first test run, and after that there is no more life except training and training. So my GOAL is to finish this, and loose 35 lbs before Christmas 2013. Not only that, but to be a better role model for my children.

I usually do 3-4 miles of cardio 3 times per week and do weight training 3-4 times per week. I do a kettlebell workout twice a week. I have been a workout fan for awhile but I doing more cardio this year to get leaner.

I've started using myfitnesspal to track calorie consumption. I've finally realized that my gut isn't going to disappear on its own. My goals this month are to incorporate a cardio routine into my lethargic day. I have started the couch too 5k program. By the end of the month I hope to have lost 5 pounds. I'm trying to keep it easy to avoid self discouragement.

Bulking season is over for me so I will be entering cutting season.  In result, I will be doing more cardio and lifting for reps instead of heavy weight.  Good luck to everyone's fitness goals! I don't use any apps just use my phone for MUSIC!

I really want to focus on losing weight and gaining stamina because lately I have been having a hard time keeping up day-to-day and am just getting so sleepy. I'd really like to be more productive and I think a Fitbit would be awesome and hopefully keep me on track.

After getting my excercise routine interrupted from 2 moves this year my goal is to just get started again. I'm blocked and it's taking its toll.
 
Order FitBit (Check) (I can still win--I know someone else who could put one to use)
 
Drastically cut down on wheat (check) (Spelt bread and rice noddles are almost as good)
 
Use the stairs going down always and going up when I'm empty handed to my 14th floor condo (check) (I hope I don't die in the stairwell)
 
Setup recumbant bike/rower (this week)
 
Get back into my infrared sauna routine (this week). (I even have my own and I still got out of the routine-S.A.D must be a real affliction because there is no other excuse.

I lost over 20kg by counting calories (keep under 1500 per day), using a C25K app, and attending 2 personal group training sessions each week! Anyone can do it, I've got just a little further to go now and feel amazing, should have done it years ago!

The current goal that I'm working towards is to match or beat my NorthShore In-line Matathon time from last fall in next Months Roller Dome In-line Marathon.  I've been training by skating 15 miles in an hour 3-4 times a week and added a fourth session skating the full marathon distance this past Saturday.  I also use MyFittenssPro to track my calories and workouts and have dropped about 20 pounds since last summer.

My goals are to lose all the valentine day weight i put on when i recieved a care package from my mother. Yes I still get them. it is what happens when you live far from your family and only see them twice a year. I powered through a box of little debbie zebra cakes in a day so trime to work all the damage i did off.

My goals for the year was to lose 20lbs and keep it off without any exercise/gym time.  I've never understood the point of paying someone to make me do manual labor.  Plus, I broke my foot at the start of winter.  I've lost 12 lbs in 6 weeks by just watching what I eat...eat less, and having will power to not always have seconds, and you WILL lose weight.  I do have a little caveat to the 'no exercise program', I play in a softball league, play golf (AND WALK, never ride) and play sand volleyball, but won’t get to start that until June because of my foot.

My Goal is 5 lbs this month. I'm taking the dog for extra walks each day. He's getting the extra excercise and so am I.

My goal is to lose 10lbs, continue to run 5miles a day, ramp up muay thai training and beat John Cena at Wrestlemania.

Don't mean to be rude, but what the heck do these fitness posts that span across all of the Mobile Nations sites have to do with you know... MOBILE devices? I mean it's great that you are passionate about your fitness, lady, whoever you are, but this is not why people come to these sites. Perhaps it's time to keep your own fitness hobbies in your own fitness blog rather than use position of an editor (I presume) to troll about what you personally happen to care about. Or perhaps someone on MN staff has the same fascination with door hinges as I do, so we can also start a "Door Hinge" month?

I would love to win the Fitbit because I think that this would be the missing link to my fitness routine.  This gadget is great because it can also reccoment ow many calories I need to burn in order to have a more effecient workout and eating plans. My goal is to burn fat, and lose over 40 pounds so that I can be healthier for my family, and be a better example to others since I work in the healthcare field.  I workout in my basement home gym, and I need all the help I can get.
