Netflix updated and now supports UK, Ireland and 47 countries in Latin America

WP Central

Netflix, the popular movie streaming service, has updated their Windows Phone app to version 2.0. Using the app subscribers will be able to stream movies and TV programmes to the big screen and now their Windows Phone while on the go.

In this update UK and Ireland, as well as 47 countries in Latin America, are now supported, which is a huge plus for those who patiently awaited access on their handsets. Quick run through of what's new:

  • Support for additional international locations – UK & IRE, 47 countries in Latin America
  • New localised UI for all international locations
  • Support for subtitles, closed caption and alternate audio
  • Performance improvements and optimisations for a better browsing and viewing experience

You can download Netflix from the Marketplace for free (requires a subscription to use the service).

Thanks to everyone who tipped us on this.

Had to double check. There really are 47 countries in Latin America (and the Caribbean). Huh, things you learn.

JCCR90 says:

I'm guessing they prob meant the Americas excluding US and Canada.

aeonlinux says:

about damn time they updated it to mango. still inferior to the ios app. damn you devs!

theman60099 says:

How can it be inferior to the iOS app? They both do the same things.

aeonlinux says:

not functionally, but architecturally. if i, while playing a video, go to the start screen and try to go back to the movie using multitasking, it takes me back to the home screen. on ios i know for a fact that when you multitak in and out of the application, it takes you exactly where you left off: in the movie.
i don't know, it might all just be wp7s fault

theman60099 says:

No it's not WP's fault because in VEVO that isn't the case. Still it isn't hard to hit resume tho.

aeonlinux says:

ok, so it isn't the os' fault but the app. thanks for proving my point?

MaulerX says:

He didn't prove your point because you said:

"it might all just be wp7s fault"

That statement is wrong and he used Vevo to prove it.

mrgermy says:

Here's to hoping they add in queue management at some point.

Asked @netflixhelps only yesterday if there was a date for the app to be released in the UK. Was told no ETA on it coming to UK, less 24 hours later it here! One happy me.

Does anyone know how to get this update on the T-Mobile US HD7? All I can find in the Marketplace is a Netflix app with T-Mobile branding, stuck at version 1.6.

Sir_Josh says:

I am having the same problem with my Radar 4G. I only have the T-mobile 1.6 version showing up in my Marketplace as well.

theman60099 says:

I got it on my HD7, just search Netflix

ghoti00000 says:

Nope, just searching on the marketplace (both on the phone and Zune software) just yields the 1.6 version. However, I managed to find a work-around by using the online marketplace to locate the non-branded app.

MattLFC says:

Nice one, I got my 710 the other day and was surprised not to find Netflix on the UK marketplace, when all the reviews suggested it was a staple of Windows Phone. Installed it just now, thanks for the tip!

mrolympia74 says:

Does anyone know what resolution Netflix uses on wp7. I feel like its a little less than 480x800. I noticed HD YouTube videos are better quality
