Nokia 703 Windows Phone joins the 800 and Nokia taking suggestions for names of US phones
The stable of Nokia Windows Phone numbers keep growing--we have the SeaRay (number unknown), the 800 and now the 703. The latest showed up on the app "I'm a WP7!" by Scott Peterson (v2.6 just passed certification), which collects user model data and he kindly aggregated for us.
Of course we still don't know if these are all separate models or just variants e.g. a CDMA version, etc. We're actually leaning towards the idea that these are all different models, seeing as they have completely different categories i.e. this isn't a Nokia 801 vs 803. Still, we don't want to be premature on the issue but Nokia may be getting read to hit us big with Windows Phones.
Speaking of, they are also allowing us to vote on what the new Nokia Windows Phone series should be called in the U.S. In a tweet from Chanse Arrington, Nokia Head of Developer Marketing, North America, he linked to a poll where you can choose from a select set of names for their new phones. The choices are
- Fusion
- Genesis
- Phoenix
- Elite
- EZ
- Challenger
- Share
- Suggest your own
- Other
So far, "Other" and "Suggest your own" are leading the pack, which doesn't bode well for the rest. Whether or not these names are binding remains to be seen, but kudos to Nokia to reaching out to the public for some interaction on the matter. I feel like "Challenger" wouldn't be such a good call, given the implications there. "Phoenix" on the other hand would be quite appropriate for what Nokia's going for.

going by Nokia's new Naming Scheme they are totally different models at slightly different price points.9XX models will be super high end models, 800 models are priced around same point as N8 and past naming schemes what started in 8 like old N8X and current scheme like N8-XX included the Flagship camera range so I expect the new future 800 range to also.700 models you can look for yourself as Nokia announced the Symbian 700 and 701 last week, one is claimed to have the brightest screen on the market in all conditions and 700 most compact.

really? I loved the design of it. Looked different, especially the back! I am no Nokia fan but would definitely get that phone! What makes it seem "cheap" to you? I am not obsessed with it. I just thought it looked neat and different.

I voted Genesis. Why? Genesis means new beginning. Phoenix doesn't make sense to me. Plus, genesis is such a cool word! Sounds prestigious.

While your logic for Genesis is sound, Phoenix is equally (if not more) accurate as it's the fabled firebird that burns itself up into a pile of ashes and then is reborn new from those ashes. Either one is good though.

yes the thing is Nokia isn't dead yet..... they are just starting a new business, hence the word genesis. lol to whoever downgraded me.

For me the Nokia Fusion, Nokia Phoenix, and my suggestion Nokia Effect sound the best. So all three got my vote.

I find the name above the Nokia pretty doubtfull. LG Omnia 7?!Makes you wonder how correct that list of names is.

I think this is a really, really fun idea. Nokia needs a little buzz here in the States where the Nokia name pretty much is associated with cameras, not fun smartphones. I like both Phoenix and Genesis. Wonder if this means they are going to try to get to the shores with W7 before 2012? Everything I had heard said Spring 2012 before Nokia got here, shooting for that summer buying season.
