Nokia bumps their Chat beta app with minor improvements

Who uses Yahoo! messenger? We don’t know as Yahoo! brings back memories of AOL and the 1990’s (Pearl Jam, anyone?) but regardless, it’s an important service for many and Nokia Chat Beta is actually a pretty nice app.

Version 1.3.81 has gone out today, which is a slight bump from 1.3.8.0 just a few weeks ago. That last update was a big one that was detailed by Nokia Beta Labs. Unfortunately, there’s no changelog with today’s update so we’ll have to just assume that it’s some minor performance improvements and under the hood fixes. Indeed, that’s how it usually goes with a big update followed by some smaller fixes.

Why use Nokia Chat? Well, it’s a solid, traditional chat app that can connect up to Yahoo! messenger. It has toast notifications, presence status, location info and all sorts of options. It works well, though some have complained of the app being sluggish. Hopefully today’s update helps that along.

You can pick up Nokia Chat Beta 1.3.81 here in the Store. Notice anything new or improved? Give us a shout out in comments.

Why do they waste resources on this thing? Anyone uses this?

Jack Janik says:

They could at least make it a jack of all trades messenger with support for multiple messengers (similar to im+)

rodrione says:

I have viber, line, skype, whatsapp and only use the last two...

poddie says:

Agreed, I just don't get where they're going with this one. Pointless.

Devin19 says:

What do you mean, Perl Jam?

Is this some stupid typo or am I missing something here?

No idea what you're talking about.

Devin19 says:

I see what you did there ^^

CombatRock says:

Pretty sure Daniel meant Pearl Jam.

awneze says:

Probably Nokia's sad attempt at doing something similar to BBM?? Surely Microsoft will end this "waste of resources" once they take over... Any time now!!

lippidp says:

I think Yahoo Messenger's heyday was in the 2000s, not the '90s. The point is still valid, though.

wpguy says:

YMsgr's heyhay was definitely the 2000s. It was also one of the best, especially for ease of use and for group chats, until Y! ruined it and every other service they had.

EA updated "Tetris Blitz" and Removed the Xbox live certification. Oh c'mon, Microsoft when will you know how important is the Xbox Live Feature??? and When will you fix it???

simmomelb says:

Never used it, and I don't know anyone that did.

I would totally use Nokia Chat more often if they added AOL/AIM, Facebook, and/or Skype support equipped with (add user to) group voice/video chat and file sending features.
