Nokia Collection for Windows Phone
When Nokia entered the Windows Phone market, one of their strategies to attract customers was to provide exclusive apps and games for their Lumia Windows Phones. While other Windows Phone manufacturers offer similar collections of apps, the Nokia Collection is by far the largest offering.
From Xbox Live game titles to camera apps to utilities to news apps, the Nokia Collection adds to the attraction the Lumia Windows Phones have.
As of December 2012, Nokia has over 50 exclusive apps and games available to those with Lumia phones.
Nokia has just begun rolling out an update for their Creative Studio app for editing your photos. The other day we gave you a tutorial on how to make the best of the app, as it’s quite handy for quickly touching up your images (and not downscaling their size).
Version 220.127.116.11 is now trickling out, updated from 18.104.22.168, though it may take awhile to hit the servers (only a few of our staff were able to see the update, so this is very fresh).
Just a few weeks ago Nokia released PhotoBeamer for Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices such as the Lumia 820 and 920. Today, the photo sharing app has been released for Lumia Windows Phones running Windows Phone 7.5 such as the Lumia 900 and 610.
Photobeamer allows you to display your pictures on PC's or other web-enabled devices. Just run the app, head over to Photobeamer.com, scan the QR code that appears on the screen with your Lumia Windows Phone and your photos will appear on that web-enabled device. It can be a computer, tablet, or a friends phone. You just need a 3G/4G network or WiFi to send the pictures.
We contacted Nokia a short while ago to check in on their navigation apps and we were told to expect some updates soon. Today one of the first of the updates has arrived to bring the Nokia Drive+ Beta to version 2.1.
So what’s new? As well as the usual bug fixes they have introduced a better way to manage power consumption. Read on past the break for more details.
Just because it’s Sunday it doesn’t mean that Nokia can’t release new and exclusive apps for their Lumia customers. Today it’s Australia’s turn with the official Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) app being released.
The app is based off of the site www.smh.com.au and even boasts some advanced Windows Phone 8 features, like the latest news and image to your lockscreen (akin to CNN’s app)...
Nokia released its DLNA app Play To for Lumia Windows Phones earlier this year, but it has been missing for those who have made the move to Windows Phone 8. According to Eero Penttinen, Lead Programme Manager of Nokia Windows Phone Management, the app is well on its way. The unfortunate matter is it requires DLNA components that still need to be delivered.
Creating ringtones on Windows Phone isn't technically a difficult task, but it's not incredibly straight forward either. Nokia has taken steps to address this for its Lumia Windows Phone owners with a new app that's available in the Nokia Collection. Ringtone Maker is a simple app that does exactly what it says on the tin - it enables users to take tracks saved locally on the device and turn them into ringtones.
For those with Windows Phone 8 Lumias, you may be familiar with Nokia’s Smart Shoot app/Lens for improving your photo skills.
The app works by rapidly shooting a few photos and then letting you select which one looks best. In addition, you can “erase” unwanted objects or moving people in the background and even choose the best face for your subject...
