Nokia to update Pulse social app for Windows Phone 7.8 and 8

Nokia Pulse

Nokia Pulse is an app currently in beta that aims to make messaging with contacts easier, particularly when attempting to meet. Instead of sending multiple SMS messages, with Nokia Pulse one can send a message with it automatically tagging current location.

The app will also suggest a place to meet, complete with ratings, reviews, map directions and more. It essentially cuts down the multiple app usage when attempting to achieve similar results. The good news is the beta is coming soon to both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.8.

Nokia Pulse is reportedly deeply integrated with Nokia Maps, which will pull in the rich details, including ratings, reviews, directions and more all within the app. A Pulse Live Tile can be created that will alert the user to any new messages that have been received by the Windows Phone, or pin an individual conversation to filter notifications through and only be alerted for new entries in that thread.

To remind us what's new in the latest version:

  • Conversation live tile – pin a specific conversation to your Start screen
  • Pulse from landing page – tap in the “Send a message” box and go directly to the Compose screen
  • Recognize multiple email addresses for an individual user

You can try out the latest beta by heading over to Nokia Beta Labs.

This was cool to use on my N9, 3rd party whatsapp wasn't available at that point yet. But now with 920 rooms and whatsapp, not sure I'm interested anymore, hmm.

I hope Microsoft release the SDK before release the WP 7.8, I just flashed my Lumia 800 with an UK CV firmware and is working great, tho no screen-shot function which is pathetic to be honest. Right now aside from the mail, sms and a few native apps, no application have the double-wide tile, so they'd better release that SDK before releasing 7.8.

dinchy87 says:

you must use the WP8 SDK for making the bigger live tiles for 7.8. Microsoft said that a few weeks ago on the windows team blog. You m,ust use a reflection of a part of the WP8 SDK to make it possible for the tiles in wp7.8 to be like wp8. here is a link for that

Quite frankly I don't think it's useful, unless you have many friends that use Nokia WP phones. I'd rather use apps like Whatsapp and Viber that can do almost the same thing, and can reach friends with Android and iOS phones.

Unless this gets a lot of traction on Asha or S40, I don't see a lot of value ... yet.

Rooms, Groups, SMS, Whatsapp, FB Chat integration......A bit too much already no? What are they thinking.

WPenvy says:

Sounds like something that would mainly benefit people with friends on Nokia devices :(

cedarlog says:

it looks like a decent app if they want to make it more popular they should provide it to all windows phone users

Simple and easy to use app. Simply awesome. Every conversation, is far more useful and engaging. - JustFab
