Nokia updates Play To Beta for Lumia 1020, Lumia 925 with Black release

This morning, we reported that Nokia’s DLNA streaming app Play To was not compatible with those people who are using Update 3 Preview from Microsoft. In the meantime, users will evidently have to wait until the Lumia Black firmware and proper Update 3 update rolls out.

Today though, Nokia has updated their secondary beta version of Play To. That app was released earlier for the Lumia 1520, but it has now been patched to work with the Lumia 1320 and Lumia 525—both new devices, just hitting the market. In addition, this new version also supports the Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925 with the Lumia Black firmware. Currently, that’s mostly for those on AT&T and T-Mobile (US), though presumably others will be getting it as well.

The latest release is now live in the Store. Here are the noted changes, some of which overlap with last week’s initial release.

Play To (Beta)

  • Support for all WP8 resolutions
  • Slideshow support for images
  • Improved UI simplifying the usage of Play to

Overall, the app is working quite well on our Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020, so if you’re a fan of DLNA or even have an Xbox One, you’ll want to grab this app. Use it for streaming photos, videos or music to your favorite DLNA enabled device.

Pick up Play To Beta version here in the Store or read more about this release from Nokia’s Beta Labs.

Is the link correct? Or is it a Beta version even though "Beta" is not in the title?

Miistercoool says:

Same thing I was wondering ❔❓

My bad. Link fixed. Give it a few moments to refresh.

Chef316 says:

Thank you Daniel :-) You rock!

cesar ruiz1 says:

Play to beta for 1520 also received an update today.

Chef316 says:

Its says that in the article

cesar ruiz1 says:

Oh sorry I didn't read the article the update was released this morning so thought they forgot about the 1520.

Armin Mhd says:

Wait. So black firmware is available for 925s for tmobile? Coz u guys didnt write anything about it.

cesar ruiz1 says:

Yes they did yesterday I believe it was.

Miistercoool says:

No, you are wrong, yesterday they announced Black for 1020 on AT&T and official Update 3 for 925 on T-mobile....well I think... lol because I have 925 for T-mobile and still no Black...

Armin Mhd says:

No that was only GDR3 and wpcentral confirmed that it only was GDR3 and not the Black firmware. Im still on Amber and phone update says phone is up-to-date

cesar ruiz1 says:

Oh yeah its true

Munkeyphyst says:

Works on my 1020. I can stream photos and video to my Samsung tv

Ticomfreak says:

Listening to "The Great Gig in the Sky" right now!

Chef316 says:

Confirmed...the link isn't for the beta version. It's for the original version

Choco22 says:

In the background, what is that??

Xaphoon148 says:

Anyone know if Xbox 360 is dlna compatible? Planning on getting one waiting for the One...

DreadVenom says:

I can confirm it is. I use the original playto app with my 360 and it works a treat.

Xaphoon148 says:

Thank you :) 360 it is :)

kwill says:

Yes its compatible. Stream to your hearts content!

Xaphoon148 says:

Thanks, the old gear I have doesn't work with it. (Wii and PS2) :P
And a shitty Samsung TV (2 years) that finds my 1020 when connecting via USB, but it doesn't support jpg-files...
"not supporting this file type" seriously, jpg...
360 for now, and One next.
If it comes to Norway like... Ever?

DreadVenom says:

Daniel, i have a 1020 Amber update, what does this app do that is different from the normal playto app. Is it x1 specific or will it still work with my 360?

Aaron Stark says:

Does anyone with a 925 and not on developer preview actually have the GDR3 update?

Editguy1900 says:

I've been checking since yesterday and nothing (in Arizona). I have yet to read where anyone has it so I'm beginning to wonder if this was solid info.

Aaron Stark says:

Same here, in Phoenix and have no update available for my 925.  I think WPC should have a survey of people who have actually received the update VS those who have not.

I been rereading this as well as looking around on the net they all claim black has also came to the 925 as well as GDR3....this article and the rest of the net have me confused right now

Sicarius123 says:

I have a PlayTo update pending, does this mean I need to avoid it if I'm.running update preview 3?

tbird635 says:

Ok as of today this beta link works on my gdr3 developer 925 . Yesterdays didn't work

Bryant Liow says:

still not working. no device found although my laptop and nokia 925 both connected to the same wifi network. A for effort. Fix again. Thank you.

Chris Yahya says:

.... Hiks.

cr_buck says:

Missing the original PlayTo before Lumia Black. With this new Beta version my 1020 can no longer stream videos to any device. Always says Unsupport Video Format. Can't use PlayTo anymore either because it is incompatible.

One weird thing for me is how they now hide the connection option which is the first thing you need to do.

At least Nokia Beamer works great. :-)
