Nokia's Windows Phone demo apps for Maps, Music and Camera applications [Developers]

Nokia Developer Apps

At the Nokia Zoom Re-Invented event, there was mention that Nokia was going to make their imaging SDK available to third party developers to use in their Windows Phone 8 apps. Additionally, Nokia has a Map and Music Explorer API available for developers to tap into as well.

To give developers and consumers a feel for things, Nokia has made available five example applications that demonstrate the Map API, Music API, and several imaging SDKs.  The Music and Map apps have been out for some time now but the imaging apps are relatively new.

Maps, Music, Filter Effects

You have the Map Explorer that demonstrates the new Windows Phone 8 Maps API, replacing the Bing Maps used in Windows Phone 7.x. The Music Explorer app is an example application showing how to take advantage of the Nokia Music API features such as searching for artists by name, requesting top artists and new releases, and launching the Nokia Music app from within another app.

As far as the imaging SDK is concerned you have Filters Effects that demos the different filters of the Nokia Imaging SDK. The app launches the Lumia camera so you can apply the filters to new images as well as existing photos in your Pictures Hub.

Real-Time Filters, Filter Explorer

Real-time Filter Demo shows how the real-time image effects take hold. Launch your camera and you can scroll through the creative filters and see how they look from the viewfinder. Real-time Filter demo does not support capturing images.

Finally you have the Filter Explorer that demonstrates the editing capabilities and performance of the Nokia Imaging SDK by letting you apply a number of filter layers to newly captured images or existing images in your Pictures Hub.

These example applications from Nokia have limited functionality but illustrates what the Nokia APIs and SDKs can bring to the table.  For the non-developer these apps are merely a snippet at what this programming can do.  Kinda like peaking behind the curtain.

You can find each at the Windows Phone Store by following these links or by scanning the QR Codes that follow.  They are all free apps for your Windows Phone 8 devices with no manufacturer restriction.

Nokia's Windows Phone demo apps for Maps, Music and Camera applications [Developers]

Can you imagine the developers that are going to come out of the wood work just because of the 1020❔... Its like the 920 all over again except even better than before.. We're going to be all right baby❕❗❕❗

Haha, unfortunately somebody has already given the Music Explorer app a 1-star rating, stating it won't work...wow, just wow!

I guess you can't get pass the rating system.. Just shows the quality of the WP store.. I bet Android lets developers adjust ratings.. Lol❗

I'm not saying you should give it a bad rating or complain, but its not a good look when your demo doesn't work.
The map app worked though.

It works as advertised, but as you say people don't read.
There should be a way to block ratings for example apps like these. Or actually they should just be available as apk's to sideload as they are only really aimed at developers; there's no need to have them in the store.

Of course it is, but these are apps that only really devs should be trying out, so there's no need for them to be in the store. Speed isn't required in that case.

I don't know about that, the music app constantly crashed, when opening and then when trying to navigate within it.

This is off subject, but it's about the 1020, so..... Shouldn't we be seeing some TV commercials advertising the 1020❔.. At least some teaser commercials❔.. Nokia promised that this would be the biggest WP push ever❕.. Now that's a huge promise.. Has anyone seen anything yet❔

Come with me if you want to live.

Hey, where's your other comment? Now this makes no sense. I'm leaving it up anyway.

Don't tell anyone else, but it's a little trick I do to get my comments at the top... I'm a little bastard, I know.. Hahahaha❗

My wife just got a cyan 920 upgrading from an 820. I've had a red unit since launch and she's been having issues with the 820 so att hooked us up since its been a pretty consistent problem with the 820

Great❕... My GF just got a "blue" 8X last week and its nice❕.. Just as nice as my red L920, I admit.. She paid only $1.07 for it... I paid $110.00 for mine... She's pretty smart❕❗❕.... She upgraded from a iP3GS, so the 8X is feeling real 21st century to her.. She had a OneX, but her XBF smashed it in a fit of rage... I'm staying out of that one...
Anyone want to buy a broken HTC OneX for spare parts❔... Lol❕❗❕.. But seriously,, I want it out of my house...

Although these are example Apps, you may want to check Filter effects and Filter Explorer since those actually allow you to edit photos and sabe them ;)

If they made a flash drive that had a male micro USB tip then we could plug it directly into our phones to dump files on the go❕.. Microkia could update the OS to recognize the flash drives.. That would be awesome❕❗❕.. Nokia could sell this as an accessory, and claim it as yet another innovation.. Wow❕.. I need to work for these guys.. That's a cool idea❕

first of all, you are all over the article :P seems like its your day off.
then this was implemented in symbian about two years ago, with a mouse & keyboard recognition. if you had a nokia n8 you can litraly convert it to a PC, just hook it up to a screen through HDMI, keyboard through bluetooth, mouse through USB-on-the-go, and enjoy 720 reselotion of awesomeness. :D

Well, for Nokia, this is what they do.  They have a particular focus.
For Microsoft, Windows Phone is just another division, in a sprawling multi-national corp with many divisions, many of which out earn WP.
