Official Disqus app for Windows Phone updated, introduces new inline browser and other improvements

Disqus

The official Disqus mobile app, which is currently only available for Windows Phone (we'll never tire of writing that), has been bumped to version 1.2. We previously looked at Disqus when version 1.1 was released. The latest version introduces a number of new features, as well as implementing multiple fixes and improvements to further enhance the user experience. So, what's new?

The most notable change is the official app now sporting an inline browser. The Disqus Browser (it's currently in beta, folks) locates Disqus comment threads as the user browses favourite websites. This means there's no longer the requirement to leave the app to view the websites in question. Particularly useful if you're one to handle multiple sources within the app.

Here's the full change log for version 1.2 (excluding the Disqus browser):

  • Recent Discussions page on your Dashboard that shows all the discussions you’ve starred or commented on
  • Discussions now show an image and description of the article, if available
  • Various minor bug fixes and enhancements
  • Localisation: Added Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Mexico), Czech, Danish, Indonesian, Chinese (Traditional), Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Lithuanian, Slovak, Bulgarian, Croatian
  • Localisation: Updated existing Finnish, Italian translations
  • Localisation: Help topics now available in most languages

Should you visit websites that utilise the Disqus community service, be sure to check out the official app for Windows Phone. It's as useful as it is gorgeous. You can download Disqus from the Windows Phone Store.

Good stuff. I use Disqus commenting system on quite a few sites.

Rich Edmonds says:

And it certainly is 1.2! Article fixed :-)

Dome85 says:

Great but many things should be add and fix... there's no link to favorited topic and when you read a notification and come back to the dashboard the notification count still shows "1 notification" and if you close the app the same it's shown on the Live Tile.

ryanv12 says:

There's a new link on your dashboard now (recent discussions) which will show you all of the discussions you've starred and/or commented on.
The notification quirk will be gone in version 2.0

I was just about to write a review asking for an in line browser. Amazing

Wasn't this also supposed to support Unification?

Giddora says:

It's in the certification process.

This app is no longer 720p resolution! What happened there?

ajua says:

The app doesn't show as 720p. I guess a quick fix will solve it.

Main complain. While I'm mexican and my main language is Spanish, I like to use apps in English on any device. I really hate that devs incoporporate localization to their apps, but they don't offer a setting to change languages. Instead, they read the device's regional settings and present you the app on that language without an option to change.

Hopefully they can offer a setting to change it later.

ryanv12 says:

I can probably look into that, but it looks like Microsoft's localization process is pretty firm to sticking to the phone's chosen language. There might be a way, though :-)

ajua says:

Other apps offer the option to change languages? It should be a requisite if any apps supports localization. Thanks for answering, hopefully it won't take you long.

ryanv12 says:

That's weird. The update was tested with 720P, I wonder if the store messed up and gave you the WP7 version? Try uninstalling and re-downloading it. I'll keep an eye out for more reports and see if an answer can be found.

morpheus1982 says:

Reinstalling didn't help but thanks for the support :D

ajua says:

I did that already and the resolution is still not displayed in 720p.

Now also available for WP7.5! Very well done!

When it has inline browser experience, i wouldcome to Disqus again. One thing, there is lack of catalogies like NEW , TOP. Sometimes I have no idea which catalogies to stroll, so I want a randam one.

Shambels says:

It would be nice to up vote or down vote a comment without having to select the comment itself and then vote.

ryanv12 says:

That will be coming in version 2.0

Etios says:

Excellent app.
