Grab the premium features of DivvyUp for free before it’s too late (US only)

DivvyUp

DivvyUp is the ulimate bill splitter for Windows Phone 8. It's one of our favorite apps and currently is offering its premium features in the app for free.

DivvyUp for Windows Phone 8 is one of our favorite apps. It makes bill splitting after a meal quick, easy, and painless. The optical character recognition technology that DivvyUp uses to automatically split the check also makes it a fun little trick to show off to your friends. As part of Cyber Monday, the in-app purchase in DivvyUp will be free.

DivvyUp is already a free app. The base experience you get includes the ability to manually itemize receipt in all currencies, a tip calculator, quick split, and much more. That part of DivvyUp alone makes it worth recommending to folks, but it’s the premium features that really make this a unique app.

Normally you’re paying $1.29 to unlock the premium features in DivvyUp. Those features include the ability to automatically itemize the receipt using OCR, save previously itemized receipts (useful for business meals), email receipt breakdown to other diners, and also the ability to customize the app’s theme to any color.

It’s worth pointing out the OCR engine is currently optimized for receipts in the US. The reason is because the algorithms used to identify relevant items are tuned for those in the United States. For example, the OCR might read “Subtot 1” but the algorithm will assume that’s a typo and that it really means “subtotal”. Which is exactly why the in-app purchase is free for users in the United States today.

Today you’ll be able to get those premium features for free. So head to the Windows Phone Store and pick up DivvyUp today! You can also use the QR code below or swipe to the right in our app to get it.

Got it! thanks

Cyrax.NET says:

UK local ASAP. How good is the OCR for US?

Vallos says:

This app has prevented many arguments!

iamoniwaban says:

People can't do math these days. Also, restraunts can split the bill.

dalydose says:

How is that productive to the discussion of this app or deal? Restaurants don't like splitting tabs. If you are out with a large group, the bill can get complicated and people like me get stuck paying extra because I don't want to see the server get stiffed.

stiggs says:

Do people actually itemize their portion of a restaurant bill? I have to say that I have never seen this occur in my entire life. Whenever I go to a restaurant with friends we always split the bill evenly (yes, even if you just ordered a salad) or one person volunteers to pick uo the entire tab.

Cyrax.NET says:

You're right when your with friends but what if its people you are not close to. What's wrong with everyone paying for what they had. My personal rule is if im at a table where others might drink, I'd not want to contribute purely because I don't drink.

antsmarchin says:

I love this app. The scanning/ocr of the receipts makes things so much easier when doing reimbursements!

Sam - those uservoice requests marked as "completed" are now reverted and Microsoft is emailing users. Mobile Guru has corrected it. I have sent screenie to Daniel on Twitter. Maybe you want to write it? Sorry, cant tip via official route, stuck at work! :(

Sam Sabri says:

Yeah I think we already addressed that earlier :) http://www.wpcentral.com/microsoft-completes-user-feedback-requests-new-file-manager

I've had this app for years on many phones. It's called Calculator.

NutmegState says:

That is just crazy talk!

We live in a world where most people cannot make change or when you give them more they do not understand they can give you a dollar and make it even and in schools they only teach how to estimate.

All thinking must be eliminated, thinking is too complex for humans and they were never meant to think

elyl says:

So... it's free in the US because it works in the US, but the rest of the world has to pay for those features... because they don't work there?

Makes sense.

Jazmac says:

Already owned.

AznRaven says:

Time to test it out!!!

Coolaaron88 says:

Already own with the premium features. Love it.

Diego Rico says:

Never bought before because I wasn't able to try the premium features before purchasing them, but you can't go wrong with free. Hopefully developer gets some sales based on word of mouth recommendations or at least positive reviews.

Wael Hasno says:

I managed to get it but is there a way to chose a different currency?

oreng says:

Hi Wael - the app should automatically use the currency set in your phone. This can be found in your phone's settings: system->language-region. Let me know if perhaps that's not working for you.

Wael Hasno says:

Hi oreng, thanks for replying to me. I live in Sweden but I can't speak Swedish yet. Besides, I like everything in British English. I just think it would be great if you had a currency selection list in the settings, I believe it's simple to implement? It would be really useful. Thank you.

oreng says:

WP8 allows you to set the language and region separately. So you could have the language show English but have your region set to Sweden, which will format things like currency and time to their standards. Would that not work for you?

Wael Hasno says:

Changing the region would be too much of a 'hustle', if I had to restart my phone everytime I went to a restaurant abroad, that would essentially kill some of the usability of the app. Also, I'm not eager to change my phone's marketplace just so I can get a simple thing shown correctly in one app. It should have been an implemented feature, especially since the app is so advanced. I hope you can see where I'm coming from with this. Thanks.

oreng says:

I'm not so sure that's the most common scenario but it's something that I can definitely consider adding for the next update. Thanks for the feedback. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Awesome! I use this app all the time. I kinda feel bad now, I should have bought and supported the developer.

wizexel22 says:

Premium features weren't free. Would appreciate even a trial period for premium features to test it out.

rndtan says:

Don't confuse Divvy Up Pro with DivvyUp Pro. Two different apps where the devs have way too similar of names. Divvy Up Pro, with a space, has premium features available for free.

Witness says:

Excellent App, and super easy to split the bill without arguments.

Great that it is free, but I would buy it all over again to support the dev.
