Print your Instagram and SkyDrive photos with the updated Walgreens app

It’s a healthy sign for the ecosystem when big name apps get frequent updates. Walgreens was an early adopter of the Windows Phone platform by first putting an app out in early 2011. Since then, there’s been an update to make the app optimized for Windows Phone 8. Now today we get another update from Walgreens and it’s brings a pretty cool feature.

Walgreens for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.1. What’s new? The ability to print photos from Instagram or SkyDrive at your local Walgreens. They’ve had the ability to use photos from your phone and Facebook, but SkyDrive/Instagram are new sources.

All you do is connect your Instagram and SkyDrive accounts to Walgreens within the app. From there you’ll have access to photo albums where you can select multiple photos to send to the local print lab. You can customize size and quantity. From there you’ll get a price and select which local store you want to send the prints to. You’ll get an estimated pick-up time, but most will have them done in under an hour.

While physical prints may be going the way of the dodo, there’s something nice about have physical copies of your photos. Plus, your grandma is going to check out your Instagram pictures unless you physically hand her the photo.

Notice anything else new with the app? Sound off below.

Want to download Walgreens for Windows Phone 8 and send your under-teched relatives some photos? Head to the Windows Phone Store, use the QR code below, or swipe to the right in our app.

Thanks for the tip Uchendu!

Print your Instagram and SkyDrive photos with the updated Walgreens app

Been doing this for a long time. I make collages on my 925, then have Walgreens print them. Great pictures for my office at work.

I think your app link is bogus. If I search in the store, I can find and install 2.1. But from your app link, it said the app was not available for my phone. 920 on ATT US.

Wonder if the photo printing is actually going to work. Every time I tried to use it it would send the same photo to Walgreens no matter which on I picked. Then on top of that the guy at the Walgreens photo kiosk said it was because I was using a windowsphone.

I wish this app would let you search stores nearby, like the app used to.  I have such a love/hate relationship with this app because it would be nice to be able to scan products and see what local stores have them, or to be able to at least search local stores.

"Plus, your grandma is going to check out your Instagram pictures unless you physically hand her the photo." This is so true. I can't even get my grandma to understand that I can print photos out from online. She always asks, "What do you do if you want to actually hold the picture?" "Print it out." "But it's on the damn computer." :-)

Updated the other day. After logging into SkyDrive, whenever I try to go to print from SkyDrive, it says "Service Unavailable."  Uninstalled, restarted phone, reinstalled.  Same thing. Bummer.

So glad for WP Central for reporting on this kind of stuff. Would never have known it otherwise. Anyway, I tried it out. A very cool and convenient feature.

It needs a Take Care clinic filter for the store locator section. Such a simple addition would make this so much more useful. Unless by 'flu shot' they mean "clinic" but that's just misleading.

Yes! I was ecstatic to read about this apps new features, only to be let down trying to download from this article. Searched it in the app store, and BAM! Awesome. Works. HTC 8x tmobile

Ironic there isn't an official instagram app on WP but you can print your instagram photos at wal greens from your WP

Just attempted to install the Walgreens App but appears it is not compatible with latest version of Windows Phone 8. One would think Walgreens would test the app.

Update: Install failed when using link from Windows Phone Central. Installation was fine when going directly to Windows Phone Store.

Already had the app. The link here said it wasn't compatible with my phone. Searched the store. Still said it. A few hours later, I searched again and instead of update, it prompted me to install. I did. Now I have 2 Walgreens apps...one red icon with white "w" and one white icon with red "w". Anyone know what's going on?

UPDATE: Now both icons are red with white "w's".
