Revamped foursquare app for Windows Phone getting close to release

Foursquare app for Windows Phone 8

Back at Mobile World Congress, we gave you a demonstration of the new, redesigned foursquare app for Windows Phone 8. Co-developed with the fine folks at Nokia, the app looks amazingly fast and fluid and needless to say, our mouth’s were watering.

The app was given a fuzzy release window of March, but that was assuming it was ready for the Store (a few other apps have yet to come out too that were shown off). Obviously that time has come and gone, which can only mean it’s still not ready yet.

Now, one of our readers has gone and asked Nokia support and Foursquare about the app only to have a response from Holger Luedorf. Who’s Luedor? Why he’s involved with Business Development at Foursquare, meaning he’d have some inside knowledge on the matter. His response to reader Brandon Powell was:

“Start getting excited!  You are in for a treat!...Just be a little more patient.  Wouldn't want to give away the surprise.”

If we had to put two and two together, we’d say Nokia and Foursquare were going to pull the wraps off of the app come May 14th. After all, that’s just two weeks away and why not make a big splash for a big name app that is getting a big deal makeover, amirite?

Actually, we’re pretty sure that’s what’s going to happen, so the only question that remains is what other tricks does Nokia have up their sleeves?

Source: Twitter; Thanks, Brandon, for the info!

I am wondering, will it be just for WP8 or WP7 users will get some love too?? O.o

kenzibit says:

Good question, was wondering the same too. You see these articles saying Windows Phones in their titles, you go in, read and find out that it's for WP8 only. Makes me sad...smh

Andr3sfc says:

What is holding you from updating to WP8? (seriously)

Josh Harman says:

Contracts probably, I had to wait 5 months for my upgrade from Verizon.

Could also be money for some. Not everyone is on contract and not everyone can afford new phones quickly - atleast the kind they would like to own

Any word about 4th & Mayor updating?

ttsoldier says:

Wouldnt need 4th&mayro is we have this!
i never get 4th and mayro notifications anyway :/

Mefiras says:

I can't make notifications work in official Foursquare app as well =(

PhilR8 says:

Yeah.  4th and Mayor still works as good as it ever did, but this new, official app looks like it'll be a much better experience.

Jean80 says:

Until official 4sq allows pinning of venues, then I will continue using 4th & Mayor.

Eas195 says:

It is still in a movement (or upgrade?) to Windows Azure-based servers. (source: twitter)

Sweet, been waiting for this one. The app works fine but its time for a major update. Might get rid of 4th and mayor when this comes out though

SleepyTheDon says:

Curious because 4th & Mayor has always been my preferred since launch... 3rd party should never be better in my opinion

Eas195 says:

Not always better than the official one.

New Foursquare, Temple Run 2, Real Racing 3, Instagram, Jetpack Joiride: all of launching together in May 14th, with the new members of the Lumia familiy. This will be awesome!!
Am I missing some new, or major update, app/game(s)??

astroXP says:

Wait, what? They've all been announced already? By the way why May 14th, why is that day so special? (Lumia 928 launch?)

walter1832 says:

Because you never want to do it on a 13th, and the 15th is so boring

xboxyp says:

4&M supports Menu option just as foursquare.com, but the official app do not!

I think I'm getting tired of slow releases on this platform. It is really a black mark on a good looking OS

uopjo6 says:

It's not like you don't have good apps to use (that gets things done).

I actually enjoy riding the developing / improving platform because every new little release is exciting.
Instead of having everything already.

luimende says:

Haha, sure.

fwaits says:

I've been wondering when this was going to drop, glad to hear some news that it's really close.  Can't wait to use it.
For those that care, Untappd tweeted that they are in certification so it too should be dropping relatively soon so keep your eyes out brew fans...

Jazmac says:

Sniff. Love my Windows Phone 8.

Eas195 says:

Ah, I would miss the 4th & Mayor app after this release...
