Review - Monoy Frosted Slim Matte Hard Cover Case for the Lumia Icon

Another day, another case review for you Lumia Icon owners (or potential owners). Today’s case is from Monoy and it falls into the light protection category. That means it’s thin and won’t add much in weight, but you’re also getting mostly cosmetic protection. Still, that can mean a lot after a single drop.

Running for around $9, you can’t accuse the Monoy of being too expensive. It comes in four colors, including metallic blue, champagne, wine red and black. The case is described as being matte, and it is, but it’s also a slightly slippery at the same time due to it being so smooth.

The Monoy has ample cutouts for all the buttons, speakers and ports on the Lumia Icon and my only complaint would be scratches: the case itself is prone to them due to it have such a smooth finish. That’s not a reason to not get this case, just something you may be interested in in case you don’t prefer some hairline scratches.

The cases raises slightly around the display, to keep it from touching a surface if you were to place the Icon face down.

For protection, you’re probably looking at mostly cosmetic. One drop and you may lose this case. But you probably also saved yourself from getting a ding in the metal band on the Icon, and at $9 that’s a fair trade off.

The Monoy will also work with the Qi wireless charging, not interfering with that functionality, so no worries if you use that. Simply place the cover on, put the Icon on a Qi charger and it acts no differently than without the case.

Overall, I like the Monoy. It’s cheap, came with a screen protector and I like the colors, which I think contribute to the Icon’s elegance. It’s easily the thinnest and lightest case I’ve come across yet for the Icon, so that may persuade you one or another.

Review - Monoy Frosted Slim Matte Hard Cover Case for the Lumia Icon

Best by far is Nokia CC-1043. Can't even tell it's on. Colors other than black and grey pick up stains after time though.

I appreciate the Icon case coverage, Daniel. But I don't think it'd be possible to make a case cool enough to make me want to cover up this white Nokia Lumia Icon. It's way too good looking naked.

I thought the same until I dropped mine last week on the sidewalk.  It took a nasty spill and ended up with a few scratches the to metal band.  However, damage was minimal and I must say Gorilla Glass really works as adveritsed... my Icon fell screen first on the concrete and the only visible damage on the screen is a barely noticeable scuff.  Needless to say though, I'm not taking any more chances... anxiously waiting for my case to arrive.

Looks to be a well made case. It feel the cutouts and camera lens properly. I probably would have opted for the Champagne color on a white handset. Thanks Daniel.

Well, no icons in The Netherlands but this Windows App is giving server errors today. No refresh either, only manualy. Consider this offtopic as you wish. (sorry for that in advance)

I"m using a PUREGEAR case for my Icon.  It is a little pricey but I like the design and wanted to avoid any designs that had that rubbery silicone material.

The design has a textured back and kickstand which works well.  The case plastic is somewhat "plasticy" and not grippy but I think over time it will wear some which will make it a little more rubber like feeling.  That sounds terrible but overall this case is really what i was looking for.

It's referred to as the Puregear Nokia Lumia 929 Holster Combo on Amazon and cost around $16 US

I had the Puregear case for my Lumia 900 and as nice as it looks, it lasted all of about 2 days before I snapped the belt clip smooth off its hinges. I went back to the leather case after that.

Thanks for this review. Just ordered one off Amazon. I am saddened about the two small dents/chips on the side and corner of my Icon. Hopefully this thing will prevent future phone-handling fails.

How to make a Lumia Icon hideous:

1. Buy the Monoy Frosted Slim Matte Hard Cover Case

That's it - easy as 1 step.

Everytime I see someone  posting about Lumia Icon, I have 1 question - Why Nokia you think Verizon is your own cusotmer and ignore the west of the world?

Every time I see someone complaining about Verizon and the Icon I have one question - Are you enjoying the 920, 925, 1020, 1520, 520, and other models we don't get on Verizon? This is a double edged sword, we (Verizon's customers) missed out on many other Nokia variants because Verizon wanted it's own "custom" phone with pretty awesome specs and passed on adopting the other world variants like the 920. Many of us on Verizon would LOOOOVE to own the 1020.
