Review: Lookout (formerly known as Flexillis)

In light of the recent Trojan Horse/malware issue that cropped up with a Windows Mobile game, we thought we'd re-visit what security resources are available for Windows Phones. One thing we discovered was that Flexillis has undergone a face-lift (as well as a name change).

Lookout, formerly known as Flexillis, is an anti-virus, backup, security service that not only runs on your Windows Phone but also has an online component.  Follow the break the read more on Lookout to see if the changes go beyond the name.

Sense 2.5 Mods: MaxManila and CoOkies

For those who are running cooked ROM's on their Windows Phone, you might be familiar with MaxManila and CoOkie's Home Tab (and yes, it's spelled that way). Both are Manila modifiers that allow you to customize the appearance of your HTC Sense 2.5 Home Tab.

Both mods can be run independently (installation .cabs available) and many ROM Chefs are cooking them directly into their products (NRGZ28 for example). These mods add a considerable amount of functionality and customization to your home tab.

Now for the obligatory cautionary advisory. Custom ROMs aren't for everyone and plenty of research, read up on the ROMs and proceed at your own risk. The modifiers are home cooked as well and while many find them stable and well developed, you need to do your research and proceed with caution.

Now, to read more about these Home Tab modifications, follow the break.

Review: Prince of Persia HD

The Prince of Persia gaming series is one of those that jump out as a classic. First introduced in the late 80s, Prince of Persia has made the jump to mobile devices including Windows Phones. While some games go through a complete transformation in their transition to mobile, Prince of Persia attempts to maintain as much of the story and feel as possible.

Making the decision of which case to purchase for your phone is based on your own personality and lifestyle as the phone itself. Windows Phones that have a sliding keyboard like AT&T’s Tilt 2 tend to be a little more difficult for case manufacturers to design to the features of the specific hardware.

Krusell has been making cases for Windows Phones for a long time. Many Krusell cases feature their Multidapt modular clip system, which allows you to use the case with a number of different clips and holders. The Orbit Flex case for the Tilt 2 is versatile enough that it can be used a number of different ways depending on your needs. The full review is after the break.

Review: Wilson Electronics Sleek

With all of the technological advances in cellular radios, much of the country is still subject to a lack of consistent cellular coverage. One thing that consistently happens when an accepted standard has weak spots is that third party companies look to fill in the gaps to provide a solution that benefits customers. We’ve seen this niche targeted with such products as Cell Ranger’s Stix products, which are designed to amplify the available cellular signal into something that is more usable for your phone.

Wilson Electronics has been in the RF industry for decades. Wilson’s product catalog includes everything from amplifiers to antennae. At CES Wilson announced a new product, dubbed Sleek.

Review: SlideIT

Dasur software has recently released SlideIT for Windows Phone as an alternative to the traditional on-screen keyboard. SlideIT will not only allow you to use the keyboard in a traditional manner (pressing one key at a time) or you can slide your finger across the letters to create words.

Sounds a lot like Swype, right? There are a few differences with SlideIT that separates it a little from Swype. After the jump, we'll give you a quick low-down on this new keyboard alternative.

The first time I saw Plantronics’ BackBeat 903 headphones was at CES in Las Vegas in January 2009. As the PR Rep showed me the various features and described the functionality I began to violate the 10th commandment (“Thou shalt not covet…”). To see why, keep reading.

Review: HTC Audio Cable

As much as HTC has been esteemed over the years for the innovation and consistent excellence in their products, there have been a few bumps in their road to becoming one of the top hardware manufacturers in the mobile space. The one standard in HTC’s diverse designs over the years has traditionally been the presence of the ExtUSB port and the absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Numerous methods of working around this limitation have been detailed over the years. Bluetooth Headphones are one option; though HTC themselves offer several options that are typically less expensive. HTC’s Multifunction Audio Adapter offers an assortment of connectivity options while the HTC Stereo Headphones may be used for both music and phone calls. A third option from HTC is their Audio cable, which features a male 3.5mm audio plug, which is perfect for playing audio from your HTC phone through a home or car stereo.

Review: Ecolife Vitalit Case

We've already introduced you to the EcoLife Elements Side and Top case. Ecolife produces a quality constructed case made from recycled materials. Along with the Elements Case, they also offer the Vitalit Case.

The Vitalit Case is a horizontal case made the same PET recycled material (recycled water bottles) that reminds me of cordura. While I'm partial to leather cases, I've been using the Ecolife cases for the past few months and have found them to be durable, comfortable and easy on the pocket book ($22.95).

Ease on past the break to read more on the Ecolife Vitalit, a few inherit problems, and possible solutions to make this case work with your Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2.

We Windows Mobile faithful tend to be the butt of jokes every now and then due to the fact that our flavor of Smartphone isn’t as finger friendly as some of the competition. The truth is, the stylus is one of the most versatile and easy to use input methods available on a mobile platform. I’m not saying that a stylus is a must have piece of hardware, but it is a tried and true solution.

Mobi Products makes a number of accessories for Windows Mobile devices. Their Touch Screen Stylus Pen is a step up for those out there who are still stylus dependent.
