Rocket Riot blowing up pixels as the Xbox Deal of the Week once again

Rocket Riot lead

We’ve had lots to say about Rocket Riot lately. A few weeks ago it received an update that added Avatar Awards and asynchronous multiplayer, and not long after that we published our exclusive preview of the Windows 8 version – Rocket Riot 3D. Now that the phone games has all that fancy multiplayer challenge stuff going on, it needs people to play it. Luckily it’s going to be this week’s Xbox Deal of the Week, going dropping to $2.99 (down from $4.99) when the sale goes live tomorrow.

For those who’ve never played Rocket Riot, the game can be summed up as a cartoony 2.5D arena-based shooter. It play like a twin-stick shooter, only without the on-screen sticks. The controls are actually some of the best on the platform. The character can fly in any direction using the left stick, while the flicking the right stick (rather than holding it) fires your gun.

Rocket Riot

The cute bean-shaped characters fly around with rocket propulsion and blast at each other with a variety of armaments. While the game takes place from a 2D perspective, the environments are rendered in 3D and explode into tiny cubes when shot. It makes for a frenzied but lighthearted experience, and the Achievements are pretty easy too. Check out our Rocket Riot WP7 review (one of my very first for this site) for more details.

The single-player mode consists of 48 levels and two gigantic bosses. Level goals include killing all enemies, scoring goals with a football while avoiding enemies, or destroying specific objects throughout the level. Once you knock that out, you can start challenging your friends.

Starting Wednesday (Thursday for some people) Rocket Riot goes on sale for $2.99 for one week only. You can find it here on the Windows Phone Store. Stay tuned in the weeks to come for an exclusive Rocket Riot 3D character announcement too!

Looks like it's time for me to purchase. I wonder how difficult the chievos are?

tbonenga says:

Simple. There might be a couple levels that are difficult. It's been a while since I knocked this one out.

Its already $2.99! Buy, buy, buy!

Awesome buy at $2.99.  Glad I waited, had a feeling a sale would come soon after they've put so much work into updating it with avatar awards and new features.  Bravo devs, enjoy my $3.

Picked up this game. Been waiting for it to go on sale. Never finished the XBLA version, but this one seems better?

Achievements are quite easy. All can easily be completed in under 5 hours. Some are mentioned to be a tad grindy, but nothing over the top.

Paul Acevedo says:

I prefer the XBLA game since it has 34 more levels and thus a greater variety of them, plus actual local-and online multiplayer. But the final boss of the XBLA game is horribly difficult, whereas he's been toned down greatly in both the WP7 and W8 versions.
