Seesmic updated to 1.7 and is now a game

Filed under:

Have you not got the latest version Seesmic yet? It's just been updated to 1.7 and now appears to be located in the Xbox Live hub instead of the usual place where applications hang out. Unfortunately, Seesmic isn't a Xbox Live title and therefore doesn't have achievements, but it's still strange how it's following suit of Shazam, which also had this issue.

Version 1.7 was supposed to address Twitter authentication issues (that's all 3rd party Twitter clients seem to do with updates) and permission alterations where users can now message authenticated accounts without actively following them. Re-authenticating your Twitter account is relatively straight forward, simply opening up the app after updating (from your Xbox hub remember?) will load the account migration wizard. This will allow you to re-authenticate your account in a few steps.

Not so long ago, our Paul Acevedo covered how Seesmic now reads out tweets to the user and this was the first step in the app taking over humanity. This is stage two, taking over Xbox Live. It's only a matter of time folks, only a matter of time!

Even Seesmic's raccoon has a "WTF am I doing here?" look on his face in that pic...

By default, when you update an application it resets the category to games and the developer should set it to the proper category each time. Still hard to believe these guys have made such a stupid mistake.

It's Shazam all over again. Well if you pin it to the start menu it shouldn't really matter much.

So long as people know where to look. You don't realize how many emails we got asking "Where's my Shazam?", even after we did a post and Tweet about it.This makes me fear my inbox :-/

Look, that's weak excuse. My Xbox Live hub should not be cluttered with non game apps, they have a proper place to be so the devs or whoever can should fix it.we shouldn't be encouraging this lax attitude to a fledgling OS that is trying to impress with its clean look.

The problem is that you can't fix the category of the app without submitting a new version. This means that we'd suddenly have version 1.8 without it being even remotely different from 1.7. The update would just be to change it's location. I've accidentally done this with the app I created for work and had to update to the next version even though it was the same app.I think Microsoft should either have the app default to whatever category the app was last submitted under or allow devs to change the category once it's been published. Either way, what's done is done and probably won't be fixed until the next update.

It's a stupid mistake that I did once. The problem is that when you check details at the end of the update process it shows you the details already on the system not the ones you've just entered. Therefore if you've left the game category as it is it will now turn up in the games hub. Also, when they change in back in the next update it will probably disappear from the phones until it is restarted and then reappears in the app list

Hey Sly for Windows Phone =D

My Shazam is still showing up in the Games hub. Did they finally fix this?

Do you not have an available update for Shazam?

IS it the developer that has to fix it, or can the people posting up the app fix it?
