Skin your Surface tablet at a Microsoft Store

Surface Skin

There are many, many perks to having a Microsoft Store near you. You get great customer service, crapware free devices, and some good deals from time to time. A relatively unknown benefit is the ability to create custom vinyl stickers for a variety of products and accessories. You can spruce up your Xbox 360 controller and now your Surface tablet.

WinBeta recently hit up their local Microsoft Store and pimped out a Surface RT in some colorful skins. They cost about $15 and the whole process takes about 15 minutes. The stickers themselves can be removed and applied 5 times, so if you have a business presentation and want to hide your Hello Kitty sticker you can. Head to the source link below to see some other combinations they tried. We'll head to our Microsoft Store this weekend ourselves and try it out.

Source: WinBeta; thanks, Jaseel, for the tip!

Sam, what have you done to that gorgeous tablet?!!

Sam Sabri says:

Hey man, I didn't do it. Check the source!

wpguy says:

Sorry. I was blinded by that nasty photo of that poor Surface.

no way I'm going to slap that on my tablet....it ruined the sophisticating look of the Surface.

But c'mon...it's Hello Kitty!

Ahh my eyes!!!

So nice  :))

I put a skin on my surface but only on the back. I told them to throw away the front pieces.

Neither this nor the source mention, but I assume the store does the initial application of it?

Also, is this something where they are premade skins only, or can you get a customized one?

That looks Tacky

They have sports teams skins too, and those look pretty sweet in my opinion. I remember seeing NFL, NBA, and come college teams as well. They have a program running on a computer in store let's your select the the skin and the device you want to skin. The skin is printed in the store. I think you have to apply the sticker yourself.
Someone asked if they do custom skins, and the answer is yes. You can upload your own artwork and have that printed.

Cool stuff on the custom skin, but I would think it's installed there if we're talking about a 15-minute install. I don't think consumers have the patience for something so intricate it takes 15 minutes to properly install.

Shoot, I'd waste all 15 installs trying to get it on right the first time.

I actually saw this on one of the Surface RTs when I was in a MS store a while back, had no idea you can actually get it for your own device. They had a Windows 8 Theme one on the one in the store.

Can they do similar with a Nokia Lumia 920?

sholokov says:

You can do that to anything. Go to a banner/label printing shop. I work at a company that builds machines used for doing this stuff. It is your basic 3M 220 Vinyl or equivalent.

I'm talking about going in and having it done in a Microsoft store,...WTH would I want to go to a printing shop and have it done for. I'm a Track Maintainer, not a frigging printer.

I have a skin on the back, but tossed the front part because it just ruins the surface of the Surface.

camptime says:

I have a skin on the back as well I hated the one on the front as it left a fine lip that does not work well with swiping from the edges are

I think these are made by skinit..in which case you can custom make your own. I have one for my phone & computer already, so I'm definitely picking one up for my tablet!!
