Skyfehl, destroy meteors with famous video game characters

In the past few weeks, we’ve been telling you about games from iOS and Android that have made their way to Windows Phone. This includes games like Hill Climb Racing, Yeti on Furry, Into the Dead, and more. Skyfehl is different. It has just released for Windows Phone 8 and will soon head over to the other two platforms. It’s surprisingly fun and we think it’s worth checking out.

Head past the break to watch our gameplay video.

The game is very simple.  The sky is crumbling down and the only way to save the world is by body checking meteors. Don’t let them hit your head or else the round is over. It sounds silly, but that’s what makes it entertaining.

You might be familiar with some of the characters in the game. It includes Hulk Hogan, a Ninja Turtle, Ken from Street Fighter, Arnold Swarzenegger, Sonic the Hedgehog, Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, and more. Signifer, the developer of Skyfehl, says more characters are coming.

There are only two things you can control: go left or right. Touching the left side of the screen will move your character to the left, while touching the right side of screen moves them to the right. It's cool that the screen tilts with your movement.

You earn 10 points for every meteor you hit from the side. Collecting power-ups increases the points you get per meteor, but there are drawbacks. For example, one power-up turns the screen red and wavy, while another power-up turns the screen black and white. This makes it more difficult to see the meteors that could hit your head.

When the round finishes, you can see your score. It asks for three letters to save your name in the high scores. Let your friends play on your device to see if they can score higher.

We didn’t expect much from Skyfehl, but we actually like it. It’s a great time waster and we’re glad to see it first at the Windows Phone Store. Skyfehl costs 99 cents. Unfortunately, a free trial isn’t available for the initial release. We’re not sure if the developers will add that option in the future, but we still think it’s worth the download. Give it a go and let us know what you think in the comments!

Westoncreg says:

How about Nico Bellic :P

JedH says:

Hey this is Jed the dev at Signifer, and there may not be a Solid Snake, but there's definitely a generic 90s era style stealth action espionage style character that wears bandanas with some choice bits of dialog...but, it's definitely not Solid Snake...no way...definitely not.

Got my Christmas bonus 5000 dollar's I'm going app crazy,.

wpguy says:

Released to WP first? Awesome! Perhaps more devs would be willing to do that as a way to stand out more, not just in the WP world, but the iOS and Android worlds.

Not available in Brazil. Sad.

Karkadann says:

What about changing your region to US? It worked for me. Not sure if I should buy it though...

JedH says:

Hey Guilherme I have the game set to all markets but if it's not showing let me know. Send me an email at jed@signifergames.com and I'll make sure you're sorted. I'm not even sure what our game would cost in Brazil, judging by console pricing I'm assuming it's about $350 USD or something!

If you wanted to match the US price, you would have to set it to about BRL 2,00. Maybe even BRL 2,50.

Hi. When you select the game distribution to all countries in some countries will be only published if you upload the specifics certificates to these countries. The Brazilian one is the DJCTQ. But if you have a ESRB or PEGI certificate you can upload it in the DJCTQ row and choose a game rating that matches the certificate that your game has. You can use this method to publish in Russian and others countries too. You can see this information in the certificates page in the WP Dev Center. And this method also can be used to publish in the Windows 8 Store. Just try and let me know if works. I will send you an email when I get in home.

JedH says:

I'll check into that, we don't have any actual certificates, but if I can get something going there I'll definitely do it up. Also Gustavo, I think the Marketplace sets them all to the minimum price for all markets in the dev center, but if I'll see if I can nudge it lower. Worst case if I can't get anything going I'll fire you a message and make sure you have something. Send me an email to jed@signifergames.com with your Windows account it's associated with.

Looks horrific.

triggerblame says:

Srsly. Not really excited to "see it first on WP"

Justin5267 says:

Lol using licensed characters. Prepare for removal.

davehong says:

Exactly!

There's a ton of apps that do this on the Marketplace - isn't there anyone auditing these apps before they put them up?

JedH says:

We don't actually use licensed characters...I mean we have Scorpeeon the generic yellow ninja who say's "Come over here." which isn't used anywhere else. We went over this with our legal team and they've assured us that our millions from this game will be secure.

Paul Acevedo says:

I don't know; I agree with the others that the characters are too close to the real things. If any IP holder noticed the game (admittedly unlikely), they could easily get it taken down.

JedH says:

Well there is the outside possibility that someone could heavily pursue it, however I've dealt with publishing music and sampling/label issues, and typically we are not directly referencing a likeness as that person directly, just something similar. Additionally all sounds/music/art we've done ourselves of course so that helps. Think of the major fighting games of the past that all heavily ripped each other off. I could have been misinformed, or perhaps ownership laws with music are not in anyway similar, but I don't think we're doing anything that directly infringes, but I guess that will be a bridge fun to cross.

Worst case scenario I pretend to care about politics and say this game is some form of sattire...or something.

WPCrook says:

I'm sorry but... Mortal Combat? THERE IS NO SUCH GAME!

Mark Guim says:

Good catch! Damn autocorrect.

WPCrook says:

You're welcome. :)

Jazmac says:

Made me laugh watching the game play.

This is totally crazy game. I gotta play it drunk :D

paulheu says:

I'm so waiting for Jeff Minter to do attack of the Mutant Camels for WP :D (Matrix and GridRunner would be great too!!)
