Those who reside in Russia will be able to further enjoy the improvements made to the overall user experience with the 1308 firmware update, which is now rolling out for the Nokia Lumia 620 in the region. 

We’ve talked about the 1308 firmware for current Nokia Lumias that have been slowly hitting the market over the last few weeks. While most of the attention has gone to the Lumia 920, the Lumia 620 is also a part of that update and sure enough, we’re getting a lot of tips that it’s being pushed over-the-air as we speak.

From Germany to Malaysia to India, it seems that users are getting the firmware patch to help improve performance. While people are getting the new Storage Check to help manage their space, it looks like the Lumia 620 has a few specifics that were kindly detailed by Nokia support.

Although by all accounts Nokia Lumia 920 owners are some of the happiest (and proudest) smartphone users out there, no phone is perfect and neither is any firmware update.

Recently, the 1308 firmware for Windows Phone 8 Lumias has begun rolling out, starting with AT&T and just this week heading out to other carriers globally.  Now, we’re getting numerous reports that the update, while adding advanced Storage Tools, improving sensors, tweaking some camera settings and more, has wrought some issues with the radio.

Indeed, from our own experience we too have witnessed these oddities with data and phone connections on our white AT&T Lumia 920 (clean install of the 1308 ROM). What makes the problem hard is it is not easy to quantify e.g. on occasion, it shows the phone being connected to LTE but data either trickles in or doesn’t come at all (both for uploads and downloads).

Here’s a sneaky (and welcomed) little change that a few of you have tipped us on. It seems yesterday’s AT&T Lumia 920 firmware update, which will be going to other Lumias in the near future, is also sporting a few changes for the display time-out (found under Settings > Lock Screen).

Currently, some users on a few Windows Phone have only four options: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes and 5 minutes. The choice determines how long your device will sit idle before the screen powers off (we opt for 3 minutes ourselves mostly due to photo and video shoots). Now, with the 1308 firmware for AT&T new timings have been added including 15 minutes, 30 minutes and Never.

On top of an already busy day for Windows Phone users, those with an AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 will be pleased to know that the 1308 firmware is now available to download over-the-air. We told you it was coming last week and it’s now here.

We’ve detailed some of the changes in 1308 before, including improved photo quality, Storage tools to clear out “Other” memory and eventually a color profile tool for the display.

Just yesterday on the podcast we were asked about a timetable for the new Nokia firmware for their Lumia line. As we detailed earlier, the 1308 firmware brings a host of new features and fixes for users—much like a good tidying up. Some of those changes include camera improvements, Storage fix option and the ability to change the color intensity of the display.

Now, that 1308 firmware has been spotted by us on the Navifirm system for the AT&T Lumia 920, meaning the release should be within a few weeks, at most, pending a nod from the carrier. Peeking on Nokia’s servers, we can see firmware for “RM-820 NDT America ATT” with the five color options available (white, black, red, cyan, and yellow). The firmware is marked as 1232.5957.1308.1.

Nokia is evidently adding some more customization options for Nokia Lumia 920 users (and possibly their other WP8 Lumias).  The evidence comes from the latest update of Nokia’s display + touch app, which allows users to control the SuperSensitive Touch and sunlight readability options.

Now there is a third option called “Lumia color profile”, which will allow you to make your Lumia 920 “Vivid” or “Natural” by using a slider. Likewise you can change the color temperature from “Cool” to “Warm” on a second slider.

This will be the first time on Windows Phone that users were given access to changing more than just brightness on their display and it shows how Nokia is continually offering improved experiences.
