Accord

Verizon is still yet to begin shipping HTC 8X orders, and according to emails received by a handful of our readers who have kindly forwarded copies to us, there's a slight delay. The carrier is stocking both the HTC 8X and Lumia 822 Windows Phone 8 handsets in its smartphone line-up (with the Samsung Odyssey coming in the future).

Because the HTC 8X is slightly behind schedule Verizon is offering 30% off any case in its store as a token of appreciation while consumers wait patiently for their Windows Phones to arrive. Both devices are officially being made available tomorrow in stores across the US.

On Friday, we asked our readers what Windows Phone 8 device they were leaning towards for their next purchase. And although HTC has yet to unveil their new phones, it appears that Nokia has by far demonstrated their dominance amongst our readership.

The poll was simple: Choose one of four new Windows Phone 8 devices, including the Nokia Lumia 820, Lumia 920, Samsung ATIV S or the HTC Accord (a device all but officially confirmed at this point for release).

Although Nokia is getting all the headlines today for their big announcement tomorrow morning and Samsung had last week, let us not forget the other 800 LB gorilla: HTC.

They just sent out invites for Wednesday, September 19th at 10:30 am EST here in New York City and assured, it is Windows Phone 8 that they will be talking about and we'll be there to cover it.

The big question is, can they follow up Nokia and Samsung's announcements?

A leaked image of a Windows Phone Quick Guide that surfaced with drawings of the HTC Accord has some believing the new Windows Phone will be named 8X.

Very little is known about the Accord but leaked specifications have the device fitted with a dual core snapdragon processor, 4.3" Super LCD2 screen, 8mp camera, NFC, and 1gb of memory. We're just not sure if too much is being read into the "Windows Phone 8X".

The HTC Accord with a centred USB connector

What appear to be schematics for the HTC Accord Windows Phone have been leaked on Twitter by Football (@Football4PDA). As with any rumour, we recommend you take this with a pinch of salt, but we're starting to seriously look at the design and see increased probability that this could well be what HTC will be bringing to the table this year.

We last looked at the HTC Accord being leaked by Football, but were unsure just how accurate the renders were. Should the above diagram be real, we could well be looking at a colourful HTC Windows Phone. The issues we had with the previous renders were the Windows Phone 7.x interface and the interesting use of purple. While the above image could easily have been created from those renders, we couldn't pass up the opportunity for another look (and this new 'leak' is making its way around news websites).

The usual warnings of rumour caution apply here but this looks like this could have some weight. In what appears to have been discovered from a HTC ROM, a new HTC device sports a mind-bending shade of purple. We have already reported on the leaked specifications of HTCs future Windows Phone 8 wares, and this colour usage certainly receives our attention.

We have to point out the obvious here and say, its running Windows Phone 7.5. Granted its not sporting a standard colour scheme so could just be HTC experimenting with getting those shades right.  The body design is certainly not what we normally see from HTC, perhaps this signals some exciting things coming from one of our favourite device makers?

The dust has barely settled from the Windows Phone Summit and we are now seeing leaked specs on three new HTC Windows Phone 8 devices. Here's what we know about the Rio, Accord and Zenith.

Rio: The Rio would be considered an entry level Windows Phone featuring a 4" WVGA display, 5mp camera with 720p video capture, 512mb on board memory, 14.4Mbps HSPA and a Qualcomm MSM8227 processor.

Accord: Stepping up from the Rio will be the Accord that features a 4.3" 720p Super LCD 2 screen, an 8mp camera with 1080p video capture, NFC support, 1gb of RAM, dual-core processor and 42Mbps HSPA+.

Zenith: The Zenith will be the upper end model featuring a 4.7" 720p Super LCD 2 screen, 8mp camera with 1080p video capture, 42Mbps HSPA+, and a quad-core Qualcomm processor.

All three Windows Phone 8 devices are slated to ship this year with the Rio and Accord scheduled tentatively for October and the Zenith later in the fourth quarter (in time for Christmas?). Granted all these projections are dependent on how smoothly and timely Microsoft has Windows Phone 8 ready and all the carrier involvement that we have grown to love.

It should prove to be an interesting summer...
