There's more than what's usually visible in the Windows Phone universe. When we talk about Windows Phones these days, we always talk about Samsung, HTC, Nokia, and sometimes Huawei. But if you remember, there was another name briefly manifested in our sight, only to disappear quietly later: Alcatel.

Back in last December we reported a low cost Windows Phone called Alcatel One. Since then there hasn't been much update about this very device. Until today, as it's suddenly available in China, through locally popular e-commerce website 360buy.com, and under the brand "TCL" (Alcatel's joint-venture partner in China).

We reported a few days ago on Alcatel’s entry into the Windows Phone space with their One Touch View smartphone. The budget friendly device will have a four inch display with front and rear facing cameras.

Today we have an in depth good look at the Alcatel One Touch Windows Phone handset, designed to compete in the lower cost segment it looks to come in around US $226.36.

While much of the attention is understandably on the higher end Windows Phone 8 devices there remains a pressing need to get lower cost devices into the hands of consumers. The Alcatel One Touch brings with it a good specification at a lower price point but stands out as the first Windows Phone without a dedicated camera button. Read on past the break to find out more.

The TCL View S606, Alcatel One Touch View's brother-in-arms

TCL is expecting to launch a new Windows Phone 7.8 handset in China, branded the View S606. This Windows Phone looks to be a Chinese version of the Alcatel One Touch View, which we reported on yesterday after images were published by the official Alcatel Russia Twitter account. Alcatel Mobile is a joint venture by both Alcatel and TCL China, thus the same handset will launch in both markets (and potentially beyond).

An Alcatel-Lucent Windows Phone running what appears to be version 7.5 of Microsoft's operating system has been spotted in the wild. According to a report over at Hi-Tech.Mail.ru, the device will be loaded with Windows Phone 7.8 and be available by the end of 2012. Alcatel will have likely chosen to support Windows Phone 7.8 to keep costs down on hardware and to sell less advanced hardware in bulk.
