Museums can offer up the history of the world underneath a simple glass showcase, but the issue arises when we remind ourselves that museums are fixed structures in the real world (you know, that thing outside your house). Luckily thanks to the internet and an application by Samantika LLC., you can know explore objects and collections from around the world from your favorite soft and fluffy couch with a Windows 8 PC.

If you have a PureView Windows Phone (Lumia 920, Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520, etc.), chances are you've been enjoying the Nokia Camera app. But folk who own a Lumia Windows Phone that does not sport PureView camera technology have not been able to enjoy the same experience. That is until now.

Nokia previously stated at its conference in Abu Dhabi that all Lumia Windows Phones would soon be able to be loaded with Nokia Camera, not just handsets in the 92x series or higher. The company has today released a beta version of its popular camera app that includes support for more hardware. The only requirement is either the Nokia Amber or Nokia Black firmware update (according to Nokia's website).

We were kindly invited to Microsoft’s campus in Reading, UK last Monday where we were able to sit down with folk from the Developer and Platform Evangelist (DPE) team to see exactly what the company is doing to bring content to the Windows and Windows Phone platforms, as well as how we can work with said personnel to cover highlighted content you may have not been aware existed.

First Direct is developing an app for Windows Phone, but unfortunately the app won't be available on the store before the year is out. According to the official Twitter account for the help team, the UK bank has its elves working hard on the official solution, but since it's Christmas, children of course come before those who wish to perform mobile banking.

Movember (a charitable spin on November) is an important month of the year, enabling every man to grow a moustache for charity. These "Mo’s" raise vital funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer and mental health. It's a worthwhile cause. If you remember last year, we also got involved with Movember, but Nokia has now released an unofficial Movember (www.movember.com) app, titled #MoWithLove.

The Windows Phone 8 Facebook Beta app was updated late last night and so far, it has been very well received by the user base. The update brings a lot of new features that consumers have been longing for and reinforces Microsoft’s commitment in making the Facebook app top notch on Windows Phone.

There are still at least two major issues though: there is no Windows Phone 7.x version, though it was promised back in May and Facebook users are having widespread problems with receiving notifications. The good news, as revealed by Windows Phone manager Joe Belfiore, is that both problems should be resolved very soon.

The developer of popular Twitter client for Windows Phone, MeTweets has voiced concerns about the social network regarding access to Site Streams. Kicking off a petition, the developer desires to implement support into the backend of MeTweets, but states that Twitter restricts third party access to that specific API as it's still in beta. Unfortunately, this beta stage was kicked off back in 2010 and it's not clear that will change anytime soon.

O2 hasn't been shy when it comes to Windows Phone. The UK mobile operator has a strong selection of Windows Phones for customers to choose from, but it's also what's happening behind the scenes that's rather interesting. Not only is the company backing the platform on the store front, but we've recently covered O2 working with Microsoft on a new marketing partnership and today we're looking at My O2 Live Tiles for Windows Phone.

We've covered Microsoft's push into the realm of two-step authentication quite extensively as the company continues to roll changes out and patch up broken areas of its backend. This includes the Dev Center app for Windows Phone, which caused issues for those who desired to utilise the app after upgrading their account to be more secure. Microsoft has now reported that it has fixed the problem.

Microsoft has released its Switch to Windows Phone apps on both Android and Windows Phone. Available on Google Play and the Windows Phone Store, the apps work in unity to help make it easier for those on Google's platform to hop across. It's a welcomed addition and one we believed would be of use for those who would like to check how many of the apps they use are available on Windows Phone.

It's unfortunate that we have to break the run of banking apps being released for Windows Phone with news of the United Services Automobile Association (USAA) app being pulled. The app has been available on the platform for quite some time, but will not be updated for Windows Phone 8 and will no longer be supported. So what's happened?

This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill. The BBC has announced, in a recent blog post about mobile and the iPlayer service, that a Windows Phone app is well on the way. Consumers who reside within the UK will soon be able to enjoy content on the catch-up service. This will prove to be a huge boost for Windows Phone as a top media provider looks to support the platform. So when can we expect to see the app arrive?

We've had an interesting image sent in from a reader, showing what appears to be an Instagram logo on the home screen of a Lumia 620 being advertised. The promotional material shows the Windows Phone in Portugal listed for 170 euro with a coupled package, but what's interesting about the device is definitely the mysterious use of the Instagram logo. Could this be a sign of what's to come, or is the app being falsely advertised?
