The battery is probably the most talked about component of any smartphone, and the reading displayed on-screen is checked frequently just to analyse how much juice remains. Luckily, Windows Phone has pretty good battery management with Battery Saver Mode present just in case you need to squeeze that extra hour or so worth of use out of the device.

To help you out with monitoring your battery drain, there are a variety of apps available on the Windows Phone Store. This collection includes the gorgeous Battery Performance, which is currently available for free with myAppFree.

Much like screen protectors, we’re not big users of battery apps. Or rather, we found that they were more navel gazing than providing anything truly useful. That’s because battery life on Windows Phone is pretty reliable, where we often don’t have to think about it.

Still, we know these are popular with quite a few of you, so when Battery Performance came to our attention, we figured we’d take a look.

Battery Performance ($1.99) is admittedly one of the nicest looking battery apps for Windows Phone, at least from our limited exposure. It comes with most features we would perceive as being important for keeping you aware of your phone’s status and it does so in an elegant way.

Yesterday, we mentioned that several readers were having terrible battery life with their Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone. Some batteries barely lasted half a day while others steamed on with fantastic battery life.

We had a few suggestions to disable the NFC to improve battery performance. Yesterday, with NFC enabled, my Lumia 920's battery only lasted six hours before drying up.  The 920 also got warm throughout the morning. Today, after disabling the NFC the Lumia had 62% battery life remaining after ten hours and I didn't experience any warm spells.
