It looks like Nokia and Whatsapp are continuing to chug along, building up and refining the super popular messenger client for Windows Phone. Details of beta 2.9.6 and 2.9.7 have been revealed on the site PocketPC.ch and while not revelatory (nor final), they at least show some very minor changes scheduled.

First we should note that we don’t know what the release goal is for version numbers. It’s clear that WhatsApp have a few “betas” planned, adding features as they proceed, but it is not clear if 2.9.7 will be the one released to the Store or they are aiming for a “3.0” release.

Nokia have had this one baking in the labs for some time but there still seems no sign that it’s about to leave beta and be made publicly available to all. The app and accompanying service bills itself as “Messaging, now with location”.

Nokia Pulse and its documentation do not seem to have been updated with any changes but essentially it looks as though the bump was to bring it to Windows Phone, as was previously reported.

Nokia Pulse is an app currently in beta that aims to make messaging with contacts easier, particularly when attempting to meet. Instead of sending multiple SMS messages, with Nokia Pulse one can send a message with it automatically tagging current location.

The app will also suggest a place to meet, complete with ratings, reviews, map directions and more. It essentially cuts down the multiple app usage when attempting to achieve similar results. The good news is the beta is coming soon to both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.8.

Nokia has released a beta update to its Transport solution for Windows Phone. The app is now available as version 2.3 at Nokia Beta Labs for consumers to download and test out available new features. Nokia Transport is a useful tool at a Lumia owner's disposal that enables the user to plan a journey in a covered location using public transport.

Supporting trains, buses, walking, Nokia Transport can also relay what stations and stops are nearby using the location of the device. But the service doesn't simply halt at providing detailed information about public transport. When journeys are planned, Nokia Transport details the road / station of interchange, as well as the total estimated duration of the journey.

And of course, POI (Points Of Interest) are included. So, what's new in the 2.3 beta?

Viber beta for Windows Phone has been available over in the Windows Phone Marketplace for some time but with some limitations. We are now getting indications that Viber is still working on the Windows Phone version and a full version is expected in the coming months.
