Tiny Planets Pro is a fantastic photography app for Windows Phone 8. The app turns your panoramic or landscape images into tiny little planets by wrapping the image into a sphere that often resembles a planet spinning around the solar system. And it's not just useful for landscapes. Tiny Planets Pro can also put a creative twist to images other than the scenic variety.

Tiny Planets Pro does not take long to transform your images and once you have things just right, the final image can be saved and shared with other Windows Phone apps. There is not much to Tiny Planets Pro but if you are looking for a creative photo tool for your images, it’s definitely worth a try.

Two popular Windows Phone photography apps are in the process of being updated. Fhotoroom is a Windows Phone app that combines a photo editor, photo-sharing network and camera app under one roof. Fhotolens, from the same developer, is a camera app for Windows Phone 8 that is fitted with a virtual 10-24mm lens to offer a fish-eyed perspective on things.

The developer, Thomas Lock, is constantly working to improve these two apps and has released updates for both the Windows Phone 8 and 7.x versions of Fhotoroom. The version 1.8 update for Fhotolens had to be pulled to address a few bugs and should be rolling out in a few days (submitted for certification this past Friday).

ProShot is a feature rich photography app for our Windows Phone that gives you a healthy amount of control over your camera settings. The Windows Phone 8 app has settings to adjust the shutter speed, ISO levels, white balance, focus, exposure compensation and more. One of the few drawbacks to ProShot was the incompatibility with Samsung and Huawei Windows Phones.

ProShot was updated today to version 3.5.1 which corrects this incompatibility. With the update, ProShot now has support for Samsung and Huawei Windows Phone along with support for the Lumia 1520 and Icon Windows Phones.

The word of the year for 2013 was ‘selfie.’ If you want to have some fun with selfies, then definitely check out Warp Photo Booth for Windows Phone 8. Just launch the application, and take a picture with a very funny distortion effect. It’s a really simple photo app and we’re having a lot of fun with it.

Head past the break to watch our hands on video and walkthrough.

It's no secret that Nokia Windows Phones sport the most advanced camera tech in the industry. Competition is close – we compared the Lumia 1520 against the iPhone 5 in benchmark tests – but the Finnish company still reigns supreme. A part of what makes certain Lumia Windows Phones so good when it comes to snapping those special moments comes down to gyroscopic stabilisation. Previously exclusive to Nokia, this technology for smartphones is now available on the open market.

To call Beastgrip a camera grip for your Windows Phone would be an understatement.  Beastgrip is more of a systems foundation for your Windows Phone camera that has a cold shoe to mount lights from, a lens mount for accessory lenses, and five accessory mounts that can be used with tripods, rails, stabilizers and more.

Beastgrip is the product of Chicago-based inventor/photographer Vadym Chalenko.  He took his idea to KickStarter and is about a month away from filling orders.  We were able to get our hands on a pre-release model and found Beastgrip to be an impressive, well built, photography accessory for Windows Phones.

Fhotolens is a Windows Phone 8 photography app that applies a fish-eyed lens effect to your camera.  Fhotolens also has an HDR mode to give your ultra-wide shots a High Dynamic Range.  The app has been updated a few times over the past few weeks, building upon a rather appealing Windows Phone camera app.

The most recent update was pushed out today and takes Fhotolens to version 1.2.0.  The update adds a few performance tweaks, bug fixes, and a new image viewer.  The performance tweaks increases the image capturing speed two fold.  HDR capture still takes a bit of time (keep in mind you're capturing three images) but standard shots are noticeably faster to capture and process.

We first mentioned Fhotolens some time ago when the Windows Phone 8 photography app was in the beta stages.  Fhotolens has now made it through the beta testing and is available in the Windows Phone Store.

Fhotolens is a camera app from the developers of Fhotoroom that creates a virtual 10-24mm lens field of view to give your images a wide angled look to things.  The app also has a High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode along with front camera support and a nice collection of scene settings.

The app still needs a little fine-tuning but overall, if you are looking for a fish-eyed lens approach to things Fhotolens is worth a try.

Top Rated Windows Phone Photography Apps

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Photography Apps

There is no shortage of photography apps over in the Windows Phone Store.  While some may argue there are too many, others welcome the variety and choices the photo app lineup offers.

Our Windows Phone camera hardware has improved phenomenally over the past few years providing us with extremely capable digital cameras.  The software used by these cameras has also noticeably improved.  Variety and choice is rarely a bad thing in these cases.

For this week’s roundup, we look at four of the top rated photography apps in the Windows Phone Store.  The apps tapped for this week’s roundup all have at least a four-star rating and are titles we have not covered before.  The apps range from a camera app alternative to an interesting note taking app that centers around the photos you take.  You still have ProShot, 6tag, Camera360, Fhotoroom and other top notched photography apps over in the Windows Phone store but we wanted to shine the light on a few apps some may not know about.

1Shot is a Windows Phone 8 photography app designed to let you capture images at the highest resolution possible and saves them as a single viewable file in your camera roll.

1Shot was updated a few days ago to address a few performance issues but it prompted us to take notice of additional features that had arrived through previous updates.  From user interface re-designs to adding a few new settings, 1Shot has progressed rather nicely.

4Blend HDR is the latest HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography app for Windows Phone 8.  The app takes three photos of your subject at varying exposure settings and blends them together into one image.  The result should give the photo more dynamic colors/range.  4Blend HDR has a simple layout, a healthy selection of effects filters and a voice-triggered shutter.

We found the app to have potential but was held back, in part, by stability issues.  As expected, an update was released today taking 4Blend HDR to version 1.0.1 to address the stability issues.  The update also adds a flash setting to the control panel to allow you to turn off your Windows Phone camera flash.

4Blend HDR is the latest Windows Phone 8 photo app to enter the HDR ring.  The app has a simple layout, several filter options beyond the basic HDR, and taps into the Nokia Imaging SDK.

HDR, short for High Dynamic Range, photography is a process where multiple images are taken of the same subject at varying exposure values.  These images are then stacked on top of one another to offer a greater range of tonal detail.  HDR images seems to have a little more pop, sometimes in dramatic fashion.

4Blend HDR does a nice job of adding a creative flair to your Windows Phone photography but there is a little fine-tuning needed before 4Blend HDR can shine.

One of the more interesting features of the Nokia Black update is the ability to capture photographs in RAW or DNG format.  DSLR and high-end compact cameras have been using the RAW/DNG format for years and this is the first time a smartphone has had this ability.

The DNG format allows Lumia 1020 and 1520 camera users more control over their images.  It is a feature that matches up well with the optical stabilization, low-light performance and larger imaging sensors already in place.

However, DNG may not be for everyone.  If you detest post-processing (photo editing) and prefer a “straight from the camera” photography experience, you may want to stick with JPEG.

If you're anything like most of us here at Windows Phone Central, your phone is probably loaded with pictures from all over the place. Wouldn't it be nice to organize them better, so you don't have to scroll through all of them to find what you are looking for?

Reddit user, DashThePunk, posted a way to do just that by using your computer.  It turns out to be shockingly easy. Take a gander after the jump for step-by-step instructions.

4Blend is a new Windows Phone 8 photography app designed to create HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.  The app uses Nokia’s Imaging SDK and a multi-layer HDR algorithm to build the HDR images.  The basic HDR effect can be used to improve low-light photos and a series of effects filters can be used to add a little creativity to your HDR images.

Add voice activated shutter control, front camera support and manual camera settings and 4Blend makes a nice first impression.

Fhotolens is a new Windows Phone 8 photography app that is currently in the early stages of development.  It is the creation of the developers who bring us Fhotoroom and is a camera app that has an interactive, fish-eye lens effect.  Fhotolens’ results go beyond the bubble effects filter by using very accurate coding that reflects curvature to the lens, giving things a more realistic fish-eye effect.

We have gotten a sneak peak at an early beta version of Fhotolens and while there are some bugs still to be ironed out and a few additional features to be added to the mix, it makes a nice first impression.

Windows Phone Central Camera Showdown: AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 vs. Lumia 1020

Nokia has released two eye-catching Lumia Windows Phones this year.  The Nokia Lumia 1020 turns heads with its 41 MP PureView camera and the Nokia Lumia 1520 turns heads with its massive six-inch screen.  The Lumia 1520 also sports a respectable 20 MP PureView camera.

While the six-inch screen of the Lumia 1520 dwarfs the Lumia 1020’s 4.5” screen, but how does the Lumia 1520’s 20 MP camera stack up?  The Lumia 1020 is easily one of (if not the) best smartphone cameras on the market.  If camera performance is key, are you sacrificing too much with the Lumia 1520 for the sake of a larger screen?

We took the two Lumia Windows Phones out this past weekend to see how well they compared.
