coming soon

Back when Nokia announced the Lumia 1020 in New York City, one of the accompanying software decrees was for Path, the popular “personal social network” that is wildly popular on iOS and Android. Of course the question everyone wants to know is when is it coming?

Today, Nokia teased the app’s release a bit via Twitter and their Conversations blog where they do note that it’s “coming soon”. No firm date was given but the article highlights an interview with co-founder and CEO of Path, David Morin.

Update 1PM ET: Seems like Nokia is on the ball as Verizon has thrown the switch for the Lumia 822. Go check for your update now: Settings > Phone Update > Check for update. We can also confirm FM Radio and Group text is included.

If you’re on Verizon and waiting for the Amber firmware and GDR2 OS updates for your Nokia Lumia 822, fear not as it should be headed to your device real soon.

Yesterday, Nokia updated their site from "waiting for approval" to "coming soon" and a tipster named WP8addict in our forums noted that indeed, it has been cleared by Verizon yesterday.

Microsoft’s Windows 8 app store has yet to be a juggernaut of variety and applications. We had previously heard that the company mentioned this holiday season as a goal date to bring a majority of popular apps to the platform. Yesterday at Build 2013 in San Francisco, Microsoft’s loveable CEO Steve Ballmer stated that Facebook, Flipboard, and NFL apps will be arriving soon.

Considered by many to be the Windows Phone 8 device to get, the Lumia 920 has unfortunately been locked to a single network here in the UK. That’s all about to end and to celebrate the guys at Three UK have released their first video to introduce the device to their customers.

Since the launch of Windows Phone 8, Three has been carrying only the HTC 8X. To expand that range Three is going to add not only the 920 but the eagerly awaited Lumia 620 too.

Talk.to, the popular cross-platform messenger, is on its way to the Windows Phone Marketplace. According to its download page, the Windows Phone app is "coming soon". Talk.to enables users to send messages using a number of third-party services. Facebook, Google Talk, and more are supported. Should you enjoy using the big screen, native desktop clients for both Windows and Mac are available, as well as use via a web browser.

Talk.to states on the website that it offers free SMS for both sending and receiving. Group messaging and read / delivered notifications are also present. Using Live Tiles, the simplistic typography look and feel, and toast notifications, we're pretty excited to see what the team can do on the Windows Phone platform. More apps is never a bad thing either.

Currently available for both the iPhone and Android smartphones, it'll be great to see such a solution on Windows Phone.

Zite for Windows Phone - now available

We haven’t heard much about Zite (zite.com), a news service that’s owned by CNN, but we should start paying attention to it. Zite is not just a news-app but rather a service that finds stories based on your likes and interests which gets you away from the “information overload” that many of us experience today.

The app has been on iOS since late last year and is also on Android too but now the service is coming to Windows Phone and the CEO is quite excited—mostly because he uses a Lumia 710.

With the announcement of a new Microsoft Store being built for Boston, lots of our readers anxiously await to see if Redmond will be coming to their areas soon. While Microsoft does not pre-announce these stores too far in advance, one way you can easily figure out is by simply looking up where they are hiring.

Yup, on the Microsoft Store Careers site they have many positions open and looking to be filled. What's more, these jobs are in cities not yet announced (but you can bet they will be soon). So, are you lucky?

We are. A store is opening in Huntington Station, NY, most likely at the Walt Whitman Mall. What else is at that shopping center? Why one the busiest Apple stores in New York (besides the Manhattan store). It certainly appears that Microsoft is gunning for Cupertino on their own turf and we'll be there to cover it.

Without further ado, the unofficial Microsoft Store list as compiled by reader Travis:

  • White Plains, NY
  • Huntington Station, NY
  • Newark, DE
  • Overland Park, KS
  • Salem, NH
  • Orlando, FL
  • Arlington, VA
  • Bridgewater, NJ (Bridgewater Commons)
  • Freehold, NJ (Raceway Mall)
  • Danbury, CT (Danbury Fair Mall)

Great to see the East coast finally getting some stores. Celebrate in comments. Thanks, Travis B., for the list; Image via the Denver Post

As to squelch the disappointment (mostly of the tech media who care about such things), Rovio, makers of the popular Angry Birds series announced that they had no plans for the latest installment, Angry Birds Space, for Windows Phone. Later that day, the CEO of Rovio backtracked and said no, they were working on it.

Now even Nokia is getting in on the news by confirming that yes, the latest craze for outer orbit bird craziness is coming to Windows Phone. On their Facebook page this morning, Nokia simply note: "Finnish gaming company Rovio is working on getting its new Angry Birds Space game to Windows Phone platform too".

So you can rejoice or shrug in indifference at this point, we'll wait.

Our feeling on this is that Rovio probably did not have plans to bring this to our beloved OS, but due to the public pressure (read: tech media flipping out), the company quickly changed gears once Microsoft probably stepped in (and maybe even Nokia). The fact that there's no release date in site tells us that this has probably barely begun to be developed, so while we can look forward to the title, we're not expecting it anytime soon.

As if the world is watching, AT&T just threw up an official "Coming Soon" page for the Nokia Lumia 900. The page doesn't have a street date nor pricing but does feature the main selling points of the device including the ClearBlack 4.3" screen, Carl-Zeiss camera optics and the "stunning" look and feel of the phone.

Combined with today's earlier news of an April 9th street date, it should be obvious now that AT&T and Nokia have given the green light for this device to launch in the very near future. We expect more news of the coming days so stay tuned.

We previously touched on Wordfeud close to the end of 2011 with an email reply from the development team who stated a Windows Phone version of the cross-platform multiplayer word game is on the way. Now we can see the app in action on a Nokia Lumia 800 in the above photo.

In the post over on the Wordfeud blog the team state that they're looking at a February 1st release. Good news for those who are awaiting this title.

We know the Lumia 710 for T-Mobile, in both black and white versions, is just days from launching. In fact, it's exactly two-weeks from now on January 11th and T-Mobile already has it listed on the site as "coming soon".

The mid-range 710 features a 1.4Ghz CPU, 5MP low-aperture lens and "clear black" 3.7" LCD screen with physical buttons, making it quite the nice offering especially for the low-price point of $49.95 on contract. The device is the first Windows Phone from Nokia to land on the US shores but many are expecting it to be upstaged by whatever AT&T and Nokia have to show off at CES in the same week.

Hopefully we'll be able to pre-order this lil' guy soon as we're itching to get our hands on it ASAP.  Check our hands-on with the Lumia 710 after the break to get a quick tour.

It's no secret that the Samsung Focus S and Flash are headed to AT&T and while their appearance on Samsung's website doesn't reveal anything new, it's a welcomed sight. The two new Windows Phones are now listed as "Coming Soon" over at Samsung's US website.

You can find the listing for the 4.3" Super AMOLED Focus S here and the smaller, 3.7" Super AMOLED Flash here.

No release date or pricing information are listed. Strangely though, when you click on the "Buy Now" button for the Flash you find an Amazon.com link. Unfortunately the link takes you to an Amazon listing for an ancient Samsung film camera with built in flash.

Both second generation Windows Phones look really good and AT&T customers will have a tough choice deciding between these two Samsung phones and the HTC Titan. Hopefully we'll see these phones listed over at AT&T soon!

We're not sure if this reflects an impending launch announcement, wishful thinking or just a mistake, but the Lumia 710 is shown as "coming soon" on the US Nokia site.

Nokia is not expected to launch anything in the US till 2012 and even then, it's unclear if that "portfolio" of devices will included the 710 and the 800 or something completely new. Of course perhaps this 710 is simple an unlocked device as we were told both the 710 and 800 would have unlocked versions sold through Nokia's website directly.

Hopefully more will info will come forth today as we finish up Nokia World here in London.
