Facebook Beta

If you’re a fan of Facebook, then you’re probably happy about the new hit Messenger app from the company. Looks like they haven’t forgotten about their main Facebook app either, even though it’s managed by Microsoft. Today, that test version of the popular app gets bumped from 5.2.3.0 make that 5.2.2.2 to 5.2.3.1. That brings it to being just ahead of the official app, which is at 5.2.3.0.

The Facebook beta for Windows Phone is an opportunity for avid fans of the social network to try out latest features in builds not yet available to the general public. We've gone through the festive period without an update with 5.0.2 released mid-December, but today a new release has been published to the store. Say hello to version 5.2.1.1.

It was just two days ago that Microsoft updated their Facebook beta app for Windows Phone. That update was more significant for Windows Phone 7.x users who finally received many of the new improvements to the Live Tile and notifications.

Late last night/early this morning, a small update went out to bring it up to version 5.2.0.6, making this a real minor update. There is no changelog associated with the update, but at least one reader has commented that “your own cover photo is back on the live tile again”.

Facebook beta was last updated on November 27th, so it’s about due for another. This time, it’s two fold as both the Windows Phone 8 variant jumps to 5.2.0.5 while the Windows Phone 7.x version lands on 3.2.0.4.

The bigger news here is actually for Windows Phone 7.x users, who are presumed to be getting all the new notification improvements and Live Tile functionality found in the updated Windows Phone 8 version from a few weeks ago. Those changes were significant enough to make the app much more usable for many, though those new optimizations were left off of the 7.x branch. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore recently tweeted that 7.x would be getting those features, so we’re expecting them here in this update.

Although it’s a bit early in the week, the Facebook team has pushed out yet another update for the beta app on Windows Phone 8. Version 5.2.0.3 is now live in the Store, a bump in 0.0.0.1 version numbers.

That means we’re not expecting anything revolutionary with this update, although the developers do have a rather detailed changelog that falls under the rubric of version “5.2”. (Edit: turns out this may be a pretty big update after all).

Did you know the #1 downloaded app on Windows Phone is Facebook? It is and that’s why all of you clamor for updates to the popular social network, especially the beta version, which sometimes gets features early.

Today, version 5.2.0.2 has gone live in the Store. Unfortunately, there’s nothing too exciting to report in terms of new features that we can discern, but if the (old) changelog still holds, then this is the standard “bug fixes and supports new languages.”

In a late release Friday night, Microsoft has pushed out another minor update for their Facebook Beta program, which also now includes a version for Windows Phone 7.x users.

The update bumps the versions up to 5.1.0.3 for Windows Phone 8 and 3.1.0.3 for Windows Phone 7.x and brings along with it general “performance improvements and bug fixes”.
