feedly

One of our personal favorite applications for both Windows Phone and Windows 8, Nextgen Reader, is being listed free on the latter platform’s store. The Windows Store will have what is quite possibly the best RSS reader for the platform free, and it is only rumored to last for the remainder of today. As the app normally runs for $2.99 USD, it cannot hurt to pick it up now.

If you like Feedly, there’s a great third-party app for Windows Phone called Phonly. It has just received an update today. One notable new feature in version 1.2.4.0 is the option that lets you download full articles without opening Internet Explorer or mobilizer. This could be great if you read a lot of feeds that only provide excerpts in RSS readers.

There’s more. Head past the break for the change log.

Since Google Reader has ceased to exist in this poor, feedless world, services such as Feedly have risen up to the challenge and have subsequently expanded to become to go-to locations on the web for RSS management. Numerous Windows Phone apps, including Edoardo Turelli's Flux, were left hung up to dry when Google shut down its service, but now many of the reader apps are moving to Feedly.

We're today looking at a Flux update that implements said support for Feedly.

There are always providers looking to capitalise on a single party's choice on withdrawing a popular service. It's known across the Internet that the search giant is closing down Google Reader, the company's RSS service later this year. Competing services have taken this as a golden chance to expand business and attract those who will be surely looking for an alternative and migrate away from Google. Cue Feedly.
