Fhotoroom

Fhotoroom is a popular Windows Phone photography app that is part social network, part photo editor and part camera app. Fhotoroom can be used as a standalone app or you can register to share your photos with other Fhotoroom members. The Fhotoroom photo editor covers the basics, filters, and frame while the camera app offers you a decent amount of control over the Windows Phone camera.

The Windows Phone 8 version of Fhotoroom was recently updated to version 11, which has a healthy change log. The most notable additions with the update include an in-app store with free and paid for filters and a few new editing tools.

Two popular Windows Phone photography apps are in the process of being updated. Fhotoroom is a Windows Phone app that combines a photo editor, photo-sharing network and camera app under one roof. Fhotolens, from the same developer, is a camera app for Windows Phone 8 that is fitted with a virtual 10-24mm lens to offer a fish-eyed perspective on things.

The developer, Thomas Lock, is constantly working to improve these two apps and has released updates for both the Windows Phone 8 and 7.x versions of Fhotoroom. The version 1.8 update for Fhotolens had to be pulled to address a few bugs and should be rolling out in a few days (submitted for certification this past Friday).

Fhotolens is a new Windows Phone 8 photography app that is currently in the early stages of development.  It is the creation of the developers who bring us Fhotoroom and is a camera app that has an interactive, fish-eye lens effect.  Fhotolens’ results go beyond the bubble effects filter by using very accurate coding that reflects curvature to the lens, giving things a more realistic fish-eye effect.

We have gotten a sneak peak at an early beta version of Fhotolens and while there are some bugs still to be ironed out and a few additional features to be added to the mix, it makes a nice first impression.

Fhotoroom is a very popular Windows Phone and Windows 8 photography app.  It combines a healthy photo editor, a decent camera app and a photo-sharing network into a well designed app.

While Fhotoroom is a free app for both Windows Phone and Windows 8, add-on packs are available for in-app purchase with the Windows 8 version that added editing filters and brushes as well as removing the ads in the gallery.  The charge was minimal and helped cover the server costs.

The Windows Phone 8 version of Fhotoroom was recently updated to version 9.1.3 which adds a few tweaks to the user interface, but most notably allows Fhotoroom to handle the larger images files generated by DSLR cameras and the Nokia Lumia 1020.  Registered users (free) can now work with larger high resolution image files that range from 8MP to 25MP. We've even had success handling the 38MP high resolution image files from the Lumia 1020.

Windows Phone Central Roundup: Photo Apps
Windows Phone Central Roundup: Photography Apps

We've focused on photography apps in previous Windows Phone Central roundups and with the release of the Nokia Lumia 1020 with its 41MP PureView camera, we thought it was fitting to roundup a few more photo apps.

And there are plenty photo apps in the Windows Phone Store. You have alternatives for the native Windows Phone camera app, editing apps, apps to let you share your photos and apps to let you discover photos. The selection is so rich, it's hard to just install one on your Windows Phone or narrow the field for a round up.  This week we highlight two older photography apps that have undergone major updates and two new kids on the block. Some are editors, some are camera app alternatives and some are a little bit of everything.

But all are worth trying.

When Fhotoroom passed the 2,000,000 download mark we briefly mentioned an update was in the works for the Windows Phone 8 version. Well that update went live today.

The version 8.5 update moves Fhotoroom away from HTML 5 for a more pure, native app experience. Fhotoroom also adds integration with Instagraph to allow you to share your edited images to Instagram.  You still have direct sharing with Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.  When  you choose Instagraph in the sharing options you'll be sent to the Instagraph app where you can crop, add filters, add hashtags/captions and upload the image to Instagram.
