While there are some in the Windows Phone Store, the majority of banks don’t have apps available yet. Which is why anytime a major bank joins we’re pretty excited for the customers of that particular bank. Anyone out here using BNP Paribas? It’s a French bank and financial services institution. It’s also one of the largest banks in the world. If you’re a customer you’ll be pretty happy to hear that there’s now an app for Windows Phone.

Nokia France has revealed that Windows Phone 8 build 10327 (GDR2), coupled with Nokia's Amber firmware update for Lumia Windows Phones, is underway in the local market. Group product manager, Olivier Lagreou today announced on Twitter that the software update is now being pushed out to Windows Phone 8 hardware made by the manufacturer.

Orange in France has the Lumia 520 listed on its website. The Nokia Windows Phone 8 smartphone is the cheapest device the manufacturer has released, running Microsoft's operating system. Announced back at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, it's good to see the device heading to more mobile operators across Europe. So how much will consumers have to pay to pick one up?

The Lumia 920 has gradually become available for pre-order through retailers and the like, but we've not yet been able to confirm globally what carriers will be stocking Windows Phones, except for those who have made the information publicly available. As for the number of pre-orders that have taken place, well ... that's another piece of information that we don't possess.

Fortunately, NokiaPowerUser has noticed some positive signs on both the French Phone House and Italian NStore websites. According to Phone House's top 50 mobile phones chart the Lumia 920 is the champion, and at NStore the Windows Phone is no longer available (sold out).

Should you be waiting for the Lumia 920 in Europe, popular retailer Phone House (trading as 'The Carphone Warehouse' in the UK) has reportedly confirmed availability of the Nokia Windows Phone for the end of this month. Not only that, but Phone House in France is also offering a free FatBoy with the first 200 purchases (limited to www.phonehouse.fr only / black Lumia 920).

The retailer states all eligible customers will be sent their Fatboy charging accessory by late October / early November. The Fatboy wireless charging pillow is just one of a few accessories that's offered by Nokia for its new Windows Phone devices. Making use of the Qi standard, the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be compatible with a number of charging products.

The seaside is a wonderful place for sun, sea, sand and Windows Phones! Looks like Nokia are at it again, but this time they've teamed up with Quiksilver and a load of Surfer dudes to promote Windows Phone. If the images and video in this article are anything to go by, it looks like they had a hoot at Biarritz in France, this time hosting the Roxy Pro surfing tournament. Nokia have teamed up with Sosh and Quiksilver to launch a youth oriented variant of the sleek and stylish Lumia 610.

It’s would seem that no Windows Phone event by the sea is complete without a pair of oh-so-trendy Windows Phone endorsed white sunglasses. Microsoft and Nokia were there in force showing off the full range of Windows Phones, giving the beach boys n girls plenty of hands-on time. Of course no Windows Phone event would be complete without the “Smoked By Windows Phone” team smoking peoples phones so you’ll be happy to know they're at it again. If that's not enough, looks like spray on ‘I love Windows Phones’ tattoos were being dished out. Lets hope they come off this time?

Monster Island is an Xbox Live title with a tumultuous history. First it launched in the US-only rather than worldwide and with Achievements that broke the Live rules by requiring players to spend money off the bat, and then it got pulled. The game eventually came back with fixed Achievements, and shortly thereafter became available in the United Kingdom too. When would other nations get to visit Monster Island (which is actually a peninsula), we wondered?

Today’s the day, it seems! Monster Island is now available in the frost-bitten climes of France. The region is known for its year-round snows and deadly walrus attacks. It’s also one of the last nations on Earth to still use Latin as its official language. Also, Rayman comes from there (really). Okay, so I don’t know anything about mysterious France, but I do know people from there can finally grab Monster Island and start earning Achievements like the rest of us.

Monster Island costs $2.99 (in the US) and there is a free trial. Get it here on the Marketplace. Now that the game has launched in France, could it be available in others as well? Let us know in the comments below, readers.

Thanks to Zebrasqual for the tip!

Love is certainly in the air with a Nokia Twitter contest in the UK, but Nokia France is pushing the bar up higher by setting up a floral display of roses on the the Place du Palais Royal, in Paris. The public will be given roses for free, along with a box that contains a card with a "2 for 1" meal offer.

From February 9th to March 11th, 2012, Nokia will offer the "2 for 1" deal with every Nokia Lumia 710 or 800 purchased to mark the "Amazing Valentine's Day". Participating restaurants will be able to offer the lucky couples a deal on the menu. Check out the offer on Facebook for more information, and the rules of course.

Windows Phone is on the rise in France, as can be seen in the above browser share chart. The OS is almost hitting Blackberry, which appears to be still in decline (is there ever any good news when it comes to Blackberry?). This goes on top of the French developer who saw a noticeable increase in Lumia 800 activity using his apps on the Marketplace. If we remember the chart that the developer provided, no other Windows Phone dropped to make way for Nokia's handset so one would assume we've had a number of French platform adopters.

Although it's not all roses in the garden, prior to what seems to be the end-of-2011 surge (thanks to Nokia's marketing frenzy), the graph doesn't show the kind of growth we'd hope to see. But if the sharp increase continues with more Nokia and Microsoft marketing, we should see some positive results indeed.

Nokia has been real busy creating videos with the official Lumia product introductions, the Little Amazing Show campaign, and now we have six videos from France. These "Amazing Days" follow the Nokia Lumia Amazing Calls video that we covered at the end of 2011. All six contain upbeat music to accompany prizes being obtained, which were awarded to the winners of a promotion ran by Nokia and Microsoft back in November. The six "Amazing Days" explained:

  • Amazing Day 1 : VIP pass for Joey Starr's Birthday (French rapper)
  • Amazing Day 2 : 5 minutes to take whatever you want for free in Fnac
  • (like U.S.' Best Buy)
  • Amazing Day 3 : VIP pass for a football match, Manchester United
  • Amazing Day 4 : a day surfing with Bixente Lizarazu (a well known French
  • football player)
  • Amazing Day 5 : private show of Metronomy
  • Amazing Day 6 : a free week in Paris, with a private driver and  luxury
  • cars.

Head on past the break to check out the remaining five videos and watch in awe....

Reports are coming in that a new Nokia Collection has startled showing up in France's Marketplace.  Much like the HTC, AT&T and other brand-centric app groupings, the Nokia Collection gives customers a central place to go in the Marketplace to download all of Nokia's apps.  The collection is divvied up into categories: Applications, Games, Music and Podcasts.

Due to Marketplace caching, you may not see the Nokia Collection on your phone just yet.  Should you fall in that category, give it a day or two to trickle down.  For those of you who can access it, what do you think?  Have any of our readers outside of France seen this yet?

MonWindowsPhone has interviewed Olivier Lagréou, Product Marketing Manager at Nokia France, for some insightful answers into how the company is performing with their newly adopted platform - Windows Phone. Questions included why the Finnish manufacturer went with Microsoft's OS as opposed to the more established (and dominating) Android. Lagréou goes into explain that Android would have been almost suicidal for Nokia, who needs to push forward the brand and not be lost at sea in an ocean of OEMs and handsets. Windows Phone was the perfect match for the DNA of the manufacturer with simplicity among other strong features.

As well as talking about the company and its partnership with Microsoft, Lagréou also provided some details for when we can expect to see the magenta flavour of the Lumia 800.

"We should be able to provide Lumia 800 in magenta (pink) for Christmas. The color is also expected soon from Orange, available online only. As for the color cyan (blue), you can already find at The Phone House."

Good news for those who are excited to match the pink handset with other valuables and accessories from your dress code. We might not be stuck with just three colours, though. The Nokia employee went on to explain that should demand and projected sale figures for more colours be strong, the company will look to produce more accents. He mentioned yellow, green, and white as examples (check the above image for more "potential" colours). Should any new colours be decided on, 2012 will be the year where the Lumia 800 gets a nice refresh.

The big question is, as always, how is the handset selling?

We previously touched on Paris being the next location where a giant Windows Phone is to be constructed, just like the event in New York last month. Today, we've got an idea of what the setup looks like. In the photo above we can clearly see the erected display (behind a tree) with what appear to be demo stands situated just in front. Luckily this is in France, since here in the UK the health and safety baboons would not like the event being that close to a main road.

The massive structure (as well as everything else that's planned) will be unveiled this evening, and will run on for 10 days in Champs Elysées. Professeur Thibault speculates that the Nokia Lumia 800, HTC Radar and Acer Allegro will be on display.

Arnaud Michelet, developer behind the France traffic app on Windows Phone, has provided some statistics regarding device usage and the above graph shows something interesting (particularly for anti-WP Nokia fans). Nokia has been pushing hard, not just only in the UK, but France too. This shows with the line for the Lumia 800 shooting up through the roof, and still climbing steeply after taking the lead from the Samsung Omnia 7.

Should this chart be taking into account as a valid indicator on how well the Lumia 800 is performing in France, it also shows that majority of new owners are migrating from other platforms, since the massive incline is not met by a steep drop across the board for first generation handsets. While these aren't official numbers from Nokia (though they back up previous sales reports), it's worth checking out and feeling good about the data in-time for the festive holiday.

Nokia Lumia - The Amazing Calls

Although this commercial has been out for two weeks, we don't recall seeing it, let alone showing it to you. So in that sense, being that it's in French and we mostly live in the U.S., we consider this "new". Or at the very least, if you haven't seen it, you'll probably find it really cool and interesting.

In short, it's a commercial for the Nokia Lumia 800 set to pretty awesome music with people running towards a light. We find it amusing and effective, so kudos to Nokia for making it as Windows Phone needs all the help it can in the image department.

In France, the Nokia Lumia 800 was set to be released widely on November 16th. Things change, though, and it looks like some customers of The Phone House in France have already been ordering the device through the online store, and are set to receive the phone by this Thursday or Friday. Since it is only Tuesday and deliveries aren't to be made until at least Thursday, we can't confirm that the devices are actually making it out to customers, but this tweet sent by @ThePhoneHouse should be reassuring (even if it is translated roughly using Google). They've already shipped the first Nokia Lumia to someone who ordered the device recently:

You can get the Nokia Lumia 800 of the Black or Cyan varieties from the web-store linked below for €99 with a contract, or €499 without. You can choose one of four carriers to be the home for your device: SFR, Virgin Mobile, Bouygues and Orange. If you do want to try to get the Nokia phone right now through The Phone House, let us know in the comments. You'll be among some of the first in the world to get what could be the most highly anticipated WP7 device released this year.

Even before their marketing team has had a chance to start working in the country, the Nokia Lumia 800 is already topping sales charts in Phonehouse.Fr in France. As you can see from the image above, the brand new Nokia WP7 device is trouncing on Android and iOS devices alike, making it the first WP7 device to do so well in the country since... ever.

It's a great sign to the potential future of the relationship between WP7 and Nokia, and shows how a good name, great design and good timing can go a long way towards the success of a device. Now we wait to see how well it performs once that marketing push starts to happen in the country; from the looks of things in the early stages of the race, the Lumia 800 should do quite splendidly.

Omnia 7 users in France and who are on SFR will be happy to note that you should be getting your Mango update today. As noted on the official Windows Phone Blog, Eric Hautala details a bit about the update and tries to reassure others who own phones that are still "in testing" to sit tight, your update is coming too.

Not much else to say on the matter outside of plug in your phones and check for that Mango!

Side note: Doing a Bing image search for "france sfr" results in some interesting finds.
