Microsoft has released the first image from Halo: Nightfall, showing off actor Mike Colter as Agent Locke, the lead character in the upcoming live action digital feature that will be released later this fall. Locke will also appear in Halo 5: Guardians, the next all new game in Microsoft's long running sci-fi shooter franchise for the Xbox One game console.

Earlier today Microsoft made my day by announcing Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One. It's coming November 11, 2014 and brings Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 to one game. You get full campaigns for each game, full multiplayer and each game has its own respective game engine. It's insanely awesome for Halo fans like myself! You can pre-order the collection on Amazon right now and check it out as it's currently on top of the best sellers in the video games section.

Halo and Minecraft are some of the most popular video game franchises in recent memory, and now they're getting all mashed up together. Minecraft: Halo Edition has been announced and it will feature some recognizable characters, objects, and locations from Microsoft's well-known sci-fi first person shooter series. All told, the mash-up pack includes a custom texture set, craftable items, 31 music tracks, 40 characters (including Master Chief and Cortana), plus pre-made worlds based on maps like Blood Gulch and Sandtrap.

This past week we learned those original television programs Microsoft announced over a year ago would finally be available this June. Microsoft is primed to produce some big original content for those on the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and other Microsoft devices. The cornerstone for their original content is most likely going to be their Halo TV series produced by Steven Spielberg. A new report claims that Microsoft is teaming up with Showtime to make it happen.

The first announcement of Microsoft's delving into TV shows came nearly a year ago, and starting this June you'll be able to watch them. Finally. These shows, which will only be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and other Microsoft devices (but probably not your Zune), will be more than just the traditional sit-back-and-watch shows, as Microsoft is building interactive content into each. The first 12 committed and in-development projects were announced today.

Halo: Spartan Assault has gone universal: you can buy it once on one Windows-powered device and download it on your others. As we noted yesterday, Microsoft started accepting submissions for universal apps, and combined with the new unified pricing tiers and [universal app development] and automated certification we're starting to see the first universal apps appear. A notable entrant: Halo: Spartan Assault.

We don’t talk about Red Stripe Deals much anymore, but next week’s sale game is too hot not to celebrate. Major Nelson has just announced that the Windows Phone and Windows 8 versions of Halo: Spartan Assault will go on sale for $1.99 from April 3-9. The tablet and phone versions of Spartan Assault usually go for seven bucks apiece, making next week the prime time to scoop one or both of them up.

Halo: Spartan Assault is a twin-stick shooter based on the popular Halo franchise. Microsoft really seems to be pushing the game right now. The Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions have just dropped to $9.99 each (probably permanently), and the Steam version of the game will debut next week as well. More details after the break!

Halo on your phone? No, not Halo: Spartan Assault (although that is a great game), but bonafide Halo on your Windows Phone. That’s something we’ve been dreaming about since Microsoft rebooted their mobile efforts with Windows Phone 7 Series. Can you imagine a world where you prop your phone up and connect your Xbox controller to it and get some Slayer action on the bus? It could be happening sooner than most of you think.

Good news for those who enjoy Halo: Spartan Assault, which was released for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 back in July, as the game is set to receive its first upgrade this week. That falls in line with earlier reports that August would see such an update.

The details for the Windows 8 version were revealed on the official Halo Waypoint site with an August 29th release availability. It’s not clear if the Windows Phone 8 version will be updated at the same time, though presumably they will be tied closely together. That version for Windows Phone 8 should also bring support for 512MB devices, as previously reported.

So what can users expect? There’s three big new features here: new missions, new achievements and Xbox 360 joystick support.
