Which is the better Windows Phone 8 HDR app? HDR Camera or HDR Photo Camera

We've taken a look at the two Windows Phone 8 HDR camera apps, HDR Camera and HDR Photo Camera. They both were updated recently and without a trial version for either, we set out to see which was the better HDR app between the two.

Both are designed to merge three images of a subject at varying exposures, merge the three images into one and offer a higher dynamic color range with the final product. This comes close to being a true HDR process and goes beyond simply applying an effects filter to an image for the HDR effect.

The other day we took at look at the Windows Phone 8 photography app HDR Camera. The app had potential for creating HDR images with your Windows Phone camera but was plagued by several bugs that messed up image alignment, had the app crash frequently and distorted the camera viewfinder.

An update was released today for HDR Camera, taking the app to version 1.02. The update changed the Exposure Compensation terminology from "steps" to "EV" and contained bug fixes. Not really sure what the pressing need to change "steps" to "EV" (which I assume is short for exposure value) but we were curious if the bug fixes addresses the alignment, stability and distortion issues we experienced with HDR Camera.

HDR Camera is another HDR photo app for your Windows Phone 8 device. Like HDR Photo Camera, HDR Camera captures three images where the exposure is bracketed and merges them into one photo. The end result should have greater dynamic range with the colors.

HDR Camera offers a little more control with the camera operation with settings tweaks and processing adjustments. HDR Camera will also let you merge three existing photos into an HDR image. It's a nice camera app but there are a handful of issues that really holds this app back.
