Blue Mo-Fi Headphones Review

Ever since I started working in the tech field and traveling more often than I ever did, I've always been in pursuit of the best set of headphones. Not just for podcasting or zoning out at home, but for when I'm sitting in airports, on a plane, or just trying to put myself to sleep in a hotel room. I'm not a huge fan of earbuds, so I've opted for over-the-ear headphones in my search. Some of my favorites in the past have been the Urbanears Zinken and the Bose Around Ear Headphones — though I've been through quite a few sets trying to find one that suits me best. I recently received a pair of Blue's new Mo-Fi headphones however, changing everything I thought a solid pair of headphones should be.

It could be argued that music is an international language for human expression; happiness, love, anger, joy, envy, fear – it can all be expressed through the wonderful world of music. The Windows Phone that you carry around in your pocket is the gateway to that music, whether you use Xbox Music, Spotify, Rdio, or Beats Music.

Today, we are going to look at a pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones by SOL REPUBLIC, whose controls actually play well with the Windows Phone OS.

If you are in the market for Bluetooth stereo headphones for your Windows Phone, you may want to take a gander at the Mpow Bluetooth 4.0 Foldable Headphones.

The foldable headphones are well built, have strong audio quality and priced in the neighborhood of $35 are very budget friendly. We recently took the Mpow headphones out for a test drive and found them to be solid performers when paired with a Windows Phone, PC or tablet.

Nokia's Bluetooth headphone setup, currently codenamed 'Guru,' looks like it might be released under the official name BH-121, according to FCC documents showing a device similar to a previously leaked rendering. Additionally, at least one retailer in the Czech Republic is already listing the BH-121 on their sites with an availability date of December 16 and a retail price of 1050 CZK (about $54.00).

If you follow all things Windows Phone you’re no doubt aware that when it comes to premium accessories, it’s fairly slim pickings out there. Like all things for our beloved ecosystem though, one OEM is taking things seriously enough to push manufacturers for accessories designed to work perfectly with Windows Phone; Nokia. Through partnerships with JBL, Monster and Fatboy, the Finnish giant’s sponsored accessories are squarely aimed its own Lumia line of course, but as they’re designed to work best with Windows Phone you’ll still get a great experience from your HTC 8 series or Samsung Ativ phones.

All of which brings us nicely to today’s review, the Monster/Nokia Purity Pro headset. This isn’t Monster and Nokia’s first dance together, the ‘Purity’ brand has already been applied to another set of over-the-ear cups and also to a set of ear buds, and yet those forays into the brightly coloured accessory world have been met with some mixed reviews, and in my personal opinion the wired Purity HD earphones leave a lot to be desired. We initially went ‘ears on’ (last time I use that phrase I promise) with the headset at the Mobile World Congress this year, and came away impressed, but a little bewildered by the initial cost of entry. Now we’re lucky enough to say we own a pair and have spent a week using them out and about to gauge just whether or not you can justify the relatively high price point.

Finally! a quality sounding Nokia Monster headset! - My exact thoughts as I listened to a track straight from my own Lumia 920 paired to Nokia's Monster branded headset only a few moments before.

Here are MWC Nokia have announced a slew of accessories, mostly focussing arround the wireless charging being offered with the new Lumia 720 and 520. However there are also a few of the older accessories on show for us to try out, and despite the purity pro headset winning an award at CES, we haven't yet put the cups over our ears - that changed today.

The Nokia Purity Pro headphones have been honoured at CES with a prestigious innovations award. The wireless headphones support both NFC and Bluetooth, which makes the accessory perfect for use with Windows Phone hardware. With Monster on-board, Nokia has been able to produce something special for those who enjoy music while on the go and now efforts have been recognised at this year's electronics event.

Earlier today we ran a story about AT&T discounting the Nokia Monster Purity HD headphones from $199 to $99. While many of you will still balk at such a price, we’re sure a few of you have a cocked eyebrow and are considering the purchase.

Being the tech geeks we are, we figured we would help you out by springing to our local AT&T outlet and pick up a pair. While we won’t full on review them now, you can watch our video below to see what’s in the box and after the break, I’ll share my initial thoughts...

One of the more challenging Windows Phone accessories to review are headphones. Asides from comfort and sound quality it's really hard to dissect headphones. Luckily, the NoiseHush NX80 headphones have a little more to measure than comfort and sound quality.

For starters, the NoiseHush NX80 comes in a nice assortment of colors to match your tastes and style. You have white/black, blue/black, red/white, and red/black. The 3.9 foot long in-the-ear headphones fit comfortably in your ear and is packaged with a nice assortment of rubber earbuds to help you find just the right fit.

Nokia are still telling the compelling story of all they have packed into their upcoming Lumia 820 and 920 devices. We have compiled charts and graphs that include these speeds and feeds but so far, we haven’t touched on their sound capabilities.

Our smartphones increasingly act as our only music source so it’s good to see that Nokia haven’t left sound out in the cold for their new devices.

Bluetooth accessory for HTC Windows Phone owners?

HTC could be building a portfolio of official accessories for its Windows Phone 8 family of smartphones if a recently published video is anything to go by. Nokia has unveiled a number of extras that future customers can purchase to further enrich the Lumia Windows Phone experience. Through the inclusion of wireless charging and NFC, the company can offer a collection of products that stand out.

It looks as though the Taiwanese manufacturer is deciding to go down a similar route in attempt to increase profit margins on the platform. With the Beats Audio for marketing, HTC can make use of the popular brand to push forward media accessories, including Bluetooth devices and headphones.

You have to give Nokia credit—not only do they appear to be getting to release some innovative and boundary pushing phones, they’re creating a great ecosystem to go with it.

Such is the case with the super-expensive Purity Pro Wireless headphones made in conjunction with Monster (the company behind Beats). The headset features NFC pairing, Bluetooth streaming, 24-hour battery life for calls and music and is made from polycarbonate plastic (like the Lumia) for sturdiness.

The title sounds familiar, right? It should, as this is the same Nokia offer as what we previously saw here in the UK. The manufacturer is offering Australian Lumia 800 and 900 owners the opportunity to claim a free pair of Purity HD headphones. If you have purchased a Lumia Windows Phone (either the 800 or 900) from today through to August 30th, you'll be eligible for a set of your own.

The human race enjoys shoving plastic and metal into (or around) the ear, but a new patent shows just what Microsoft had in mind to make this more enjoyable for those who listen to music while on the go. Think headphones, think Zune, now think of both of those connected as one, slapped on top of your skull.

As one can see in the above image, the headphones enable the user to connect a Zune music player to the side, while the opposite connector is free for rechargeable battery packs, storage extensions, WiFi adapters, and more. The Zune device looks to be a fairly minute music player, presumably along the dimensions of the Apple iPod Nano.

According to the documentation, the headphones could also house controls to operate peripherals, not to mention an optional microphone and even USB ports. It's an interesting concept that allows the consumer to personalise the headphones to suit the individual needs.

The only downside is this patent was filled back in 2008 and we know that Zune hardware is no longer with us. Who knows, perhaps Microsoft also planned to include voice control - "Beam me up Ballmer!"

That keyword that everyone loves so much - FREE.

Nokia are feeling generous and for the month of June are giving away Purity headphones by Monster when consumers purchase a Lumia handset. 610 and 710 buyers will get the in-ear Purity Headphones where as if you buy the Lumia 800 or 900 you will receive the HD on-ear Purity Headphones.

Considering the price of the devices and the fact that the headphones are worth up to £199 this really is a bargain and may do Lumia sales a world of good. It is just a case of heading over to www.nokiamonsteroffer.co.uk and following the simple instructions. The offer ends June 30th and you must be at least 18 years old and a U.K. resident to be eligible.

Nice idea Nokia.
