Tradus (www.tradus.com) brings local markets online for shopping. You can choose from over 10 million products from thousands of sellers. You can buy from sellers nearest to your location, while also checking out daily deals and discounts.

A couple of days ago India’s leading daily, Times of India, carried a report quoting a Microsoft India executive that the company is looking forward to make available Windows tablets with a price of INR 10,000 (<$175) in India by middle of this year.

While that sounds pretty darn good, like the maxim, it is too good to be true. I met the quoted executive, Amrish Goyal, Director of the Windows Business Group at Microsoft India yesterday. Goyal clarified that he was misquoted and a forward looking statement like that would be inappropriate.

Can’t make up your mind whether you want an Android or Windows Phone device? Meru, the largest radio cab service in India, has just released their official app on Windows Phone 8. The company operates around 7,000 cabs in six key cities of India: Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad.

Meru serves more than 1.8 million passengers, so it’s great news that their official app is now available for Windows Phone users.

BoxTV (www.boxtv.com) is an online video service in India, which serves the latest Bollywood, Hollywood and regional movies, TV shows and premium video content in one place. Essentially, the service from Times Internet fills a critical void due to the absence of services like Hulu and Netflix in the region.

While the official apps for other platforms have been available for a while, the Windows Phone app makes its debut now. From our friends at Times Internet, we also hear that a Windows 8 app would be ‘coming soon in few weeks.'

Earlier today, we wrote about the Firstpost app for Windows 8 from Network 18. The group has also released the official IBNLive app for Windows 8. There’s an IBNLive app for Windows Phone for quite some time now, and the Windows 8 app is a welcome addition.  

IBNLive (ibnlive.com) is a comprehensive news portal that complements the network’s news channels. The Windows 8 app provides news from India, along with videos and photo galleries, as well as live scores. You can also watch Network 18’s news channels – CNN-IBN, IBN7, and IBN Lokmat live from within the app.

Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of Windows Phone toddler apps. However, for the longest I made the the mistake of overlooking some fine apps in this category. Several of my friends who are parents, keep pointing me to some great apps in this category that help keep the children occupied but also helping them learn a little along the way.

In this post, we have chosen three learning apps for Windows Phone to spotlight that were developed by Sumit Dutta, a prolific Windows developer from India. When I met him few months back, he mentioned that his young daughter was the inspiration for him to create so many popular learning apps for toddlers for Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices.

If you watch some of the shows on SAB TV in India, you obviously love their quirky characters in the slice-of-life comic dramas.

Shows like Chidiya Ghar, Jeannie aur Juju, FIR, Lapataganj, R.K.Laxman ki Duniya, and Golmaal have built a huge fan following despite having very basic production quality. mTranslator is an interactive Windows Phone 8 app that allows you to translate English to nine Indian languages. The app is developed by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a premier R&D organization under the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) of Government of India. The app is based on their AnglaMT and Anuvadaksh Machine Translation System.
