InPic

How many Instagram clients exist for Android and iOS? Just one, the official app. We may not have the official app on Windows Phone, but we do have a solid selection of alternatives to get the job done. It’s hard to imagine what an official app would bring at this point besides the official seal. Today one of our apps picked up an update. Let’s check out what’s new with InPic.

Instagramming from your Windows Phone

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Instagram Clients

One of the more hot-button Windows Phone topics is Instagram. Whether it's rumors of a Nokia sponsored, official Instagram app hitting the Store or Instagram making it more difficult for third party apps, the photo sharing network is a popular topic for discussion.

While we still have yet to see an official Instagram app for Windows Phone, we do have several rather appealing Instagram clients that allow us to tap into the network and share photos of our dinner, pets, scenic views, ourselves, and anything else we find interesting in the world.

While there are several options to access your Instagram account and/or share images to Instagram from our Windows Phones, we see four apps leading the pack with regards to Instagram clients. All are very capable apps in their own right and we've touched on each before. In this week's roundup we revisit these four and give the low down on each for those new to Windows Phones or for those just getting interested in Instagram.

Oh... and to avoid having to say this repeatedly, none of these apps are official Instagram client apps and not a product of Instagram.

InPic, developed by ApplyF, is full featured Instagram client for Windows Phone 8. It falls into the same camp as Instance and 6tag in that it allows users to directly post to the popular photo sharing network. It’s also available as a Windows 8 app, is completely free and it easily has one of the nicest UIs we’ve come across.

Version 1.1 is now live in the Store and with it, brings numerous changes worth revealing. The biggest one is InPic now has the Instagram security requirements enabled, including full logout from the service.

A few weeks ago we mentioned that InstaPic, a fully featured Instagram client, had been released for Windows 8. Over the weekend, the developer released the Windows Phone 8 version of InstaPic but with a slight name twist... InPic.

The name change is likely in response to Instagram's request that unofficial client apps not use "insta" or "gram" in their titles.

InPic for Windows Phone 8 shares the same feature rich environment the Windows 8 version offers. InPic includes most of the features of Instagram including account log in, uploading photos (no videos), viewing videos, comment on photos, and follow other Instagram members.
