Itsdagram

Earlier this week we held a community contest to rename Itsdagram, the unofficial but fully featured Instagram app for Windows Phone 8. Microsoft had contacted the developer, Daniel Gary, about changing some of the likeness of the app to keep Instagram off their backs (and no, this does not mean an official app is around the corner).

In true underdog fashion, instead of just declaring the name we asked you folks what it should be called. After taking proposals, developer Daniel Gary and ourselves agreed on five candidates, of which one was selected in a late night user poll.

Thus Itsdagram died to be reborn as….Instance.

Earlier today, the popular (and unofficial) Instagram client for Windows Phone, Itsdagram, faced a dire situation: be renamed or face removal from the Store. Developer Daniel Gary was scrambling for a new name (and font and icon) for his prized app and he had less than 24-hours to do so.

To make the choice more fun and to give you folks a voice, we suggested a survey followed by a poll. From one thousand responses, Daniel Gary and our team whittled it down to five choices. From there, it was all in your hands.

UPDATE 7:30ET: After 1K entries, give or take, we've closed off comments! Come back in 60 minutes for the top 5 choices and a chance to vote!

Okay folks, let’s play good news/bad news. The good news is Itsdagram, as an Instagram app, is here to stay for now.

The bad news is it needs a name change, font change and new icon….all in the next 24 hours. We’ll leave the details to your mind as to why that is, but for now, we just need a new name.

That’s where you come in...

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Instagram
Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Instagram Apps

Instagram is a unique social network that relies more on your photographs than your words. It's a tremendously popular service that, for whatever reason, has steered clear of an "official" Windows Phone app.

But have no fear, there are some creative minds out there and several "unofficial" Instagram apps have popped up in the Windows Store. In the beginning, most were simply viewers to let Windows Phone users look at but not touch the Instagram community.

We now have two fairly decent Instagram clients that not only let you look at the Instagram community but also upload images as well. While the number of apps are still on the thin side, we decided to roundup a few that stand out.

Following up on our earlier post, we told you that the free, ad-supported version of Itsdagram would go live today and sure enough, it has.

For users who don’t want to fork over $1.49 for the app (or who can’t due to lack of carrier billing in their region) you can now get the completely free and fully functional Instagram-client for Windows Phone 8. The app is exactly like its paid sibling but has some banner ads near the bottom—otherwise the apps are identical.

Good news for you Instagram users on Itsdagram—an app you should be quite familiar with by now. Version 1.2 was rushed through the approval process and is now available in the Store. Coming out faster than we anticipated, 1.2 is actually quite a nice update and brings a lot of fixes and improvements.

More on that and the Changelog below.

It looks like demand for Itsdagram, the first fully featured Instagram client for Windows Phone, is quite high as the app has raced to the #1 paid spot in the US over the weekend (it’s #15 in the UK where Londoners are not as hip, evidently). That’s all before the release of the free, ad-supported version, expected in the near future.

The app fetches for $1.49 and on the first day had nearly 12,000 downloads. We’re sure that number has only increased in the proceeding days, especially with the rapid bug fix update that helped stabilized logins.

It was just yesterday that Itsdagram, the first fully-featured Instagram app (albeit unofficial) for Windows Phone 8, became available. Even though the app was beta tested by a small group, some bugs did get through that hampered some user experiences. Luckily, those have been fixed.

Version 1.1.5 has just gone live in the Store and it should fix some regional issues that some were having (namely, regions where commas are used instead of periods) has been addressed and the overall app has been bumped to essentially what current beta testers are using.

Instagram, unofficially, has finally come to Windows Phone 8

It’s been a while in the making, but Itsdagram, a fully functional Instagram client, is now ready to be purchased (with a free trial, of course).

The app goes for $1.49 and is currently for Windows Phone 8 only (Windows Phone 7.x will come later). A free, ad supported version is due later next week but for now, you can try out and use version 1.1 of Itsdagram, which will allow you to upload photos directly to Instagram as well as create an account and view your friends’ photos.

Ain’t competition grand? In the race to have the most full featured Instagram client for Windows Phone, we now have a few developers working on various projects. While we told you Instagraph was updated today with Windows Phone 7.x support, Itsdagram is doing quite a few maneuvers too.

Daniel Gary, the developer behind the app, expects the paid version to go live this Friday. For those who paid for the early beta version, no worries as that carries over to this release so there will be no need to repurchase.

What’s that? You need some more Instagram news for Windows Phone to keep going? Well, we don’t have any more info on an official app, though May keeps popping up. In the meantime, it looks like a new contender is getting ready to enter the field: Itsdagram.

Made by developer Daniel Gary (who also makes the popular Pinsation app), Itsdagram steps up its game against the current uploader Instagraph in that it allows unfettered, direct access to Instagram’s service. That means you can create an account, upload directly for posting, deleting, commenting, liking, searching, tagging, etc.--just about everything else an official client can offer. Check out the video below to see it in action.
