kinect

I feel so embarrassed right now. I've had the Xbox One for about 3 months, and I just learned that the Kinect microphone has been on while playing multiplayer games. I assumed that no one could hear me when the headset isn't connected. This means other people may have heard things that I didn't want them to hear. Don't make the same mistake. Turn off that Kinect microphone.

It's a rather humorous, albeit strange experience, but the latest Xbox One advertisement from Microsoft features Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul. That's not the strange part. Paul says the familiar phrase "Xbox On" towards the beginning of the clip, but it appears this verbal command is also having an impact on consoles in consumer homes as console owners have reported their own Xbox One booting up without their permission because of this advert.

Ubisoft is launching a new fitness game called Shape Up exclusively on Xbox One that will hopefully get you into better shape. The game uses Kinect's camera tech to project the user into the game, sort of like bringing a user into a virtual world. This way, Kinect isn't staring and leering at you in the hopes of making you feel guilty about being a couch potato.

Microsoft has commenced the selling of its Xbox One console without the Kinect sensor for $399.99 (£349.99) through its own stores in the UK and US. A similar configuration is expected to go on sale in other markets later today, bringing the rather controversial move by Microsoft to many gamers around the world. The second-generation of Kinect for Windows is coming this summer, but a select number of developers have early access. Those developers are working on cool experiences that will come with Kinect for Windows. We've seen Kinect used to treat patients in a variety of ways. Yesterday Microsoft broke my heart and the hearts of early Xbox One adopters around the world. In case you missed it, Microsoft announced a Kinect-less version of the Xbox One will be offered for $399. That’s $100 cheaper than the current Xbox One SKU. That Xbox One sans Kinect will be available on June 9th in all regions where the Xbox One is already available. That bright future of the Kinect with the Xbox One that Microsoft promised last summer is now dead.

You usually think Xbox when you think Kinect. However, you should also be thinking PC. Microsoft launched Kinect for the Xbox 360 in late 2010. It later followed up with a version of Kinect for Windows in early 2011. A non-commercial Kinect SDK came shortly after that release of Kinect for Windows. Version 2 of Kinect came out this past fall with the launch of the Xbox One. Naturally a PC version would follow. Today, Microsoft has shared images and details on version 2 of Kinect for Windows.

There are two serious illnesses affecting elderly around the world – Alzheimer's and dementia. While cures would be the perfect option for patients suffering from said cognitive diseases, until research and science combine to produce such results, we're left with technology attempting to make lives that bit more bearable.

The Forest Project utilizes the Unreal Engine 4, Smart-enabled TVs and Microsoft Kinect 2 to create an immersive experience in the form of virtual worlds.

A heavily defended border separates both North and South Korea, but the Microsoft Kinect has been modified to help out South Korea's border patrol by programmer Jae Kwan Ko. The Kinect was deployed back in August last year, which reportedly identifies objects crossing the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone). The device itself can discern the difference between humans and animals, alerting nearby outposts should the former be detected.

Yesterday we shared a few of the videos Microsoft had released in anticipation of the company’s upcoming sixty second long Super Bowl Commercial. Now, to the joy of many, the official short is available to watch on the company’s YouTube channel. Just as our UK Editor, Richard Edmonds stated yesterday – it “will pull at your heart strings”.
