Windows Phone 8.1 SDK beta leak reveals even more

As the leaked Windows Phone 8.1 SDK continues to get torn apart by packs of anonymous devs, a few other features about the forthcoming OS have come forward. Today, support for Miracast, uploading of files through Internet Explorer 11 and Google calendar have been found in the documentation.

Miracast is a peer-to-peer wireless screencasting technology that allows beaming of your display to another display, more often than not a large screen TV. Now, references to Miracast have been found in the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK documentation, specifically in the section detailing the ability to let devs connect their devices via USB to a PC to show the display’s contents.

The first images of the new Notification Center, dubbed 'Action Center', for Windows Phone 8.1 have made their way on to the web. The screenshots appeared on the site Winphollowers and Windows Phone Central is able to confirm their authenticity at this time.

The screenshots appear to have come from a confidential email sent around Microsoft, detailing various aspects of the new OS. Only one page of the email, or slide deck, is shown and it’s the one that details the Action and Notification Center.

With all of the Windows 8.1 Update 1 screenshots that have been leaking onto the web over the past couple of weeks, it wasn’t long before we expected a copy of the actual operating system to show up for us to jump on. A pre-release build of the upcoming update from Microsoft entitled “9600.16596.WINBLUES14_GDR_LEAN.140114-0237”, has made its way onto the World Wide Web in the 64-bit architecture flavor.

With the number of Windows 8 Update 1 screenshots flooding the web, it feels like the latest operating system update from Microsoft has already hit. In previously leaked screenshots we were able to see the beginning of a merge between Windows legacy applications and Windows 8 applications. We were shown that the operating system update will bring with it the ability to pin your favorite applications to the taskbar. But now, we are seeing possible screenshots of Windows 8 applications being able to run directly on the desktop itself.

The Nokia Lumia 525 has been making headlines lately and now the popular leakster Twitter profile @evleaks has once again joined in the fun by releasing the above render of the device. The image shows the handset in white, yellow and orange. The Nokia Lumia 525 is a rather mysterious Windows Phone, but more details on the Lumia 520 successor are beginning to emerge. Although Nokia had a lot to announce a few weeks ago in Abu Dhabi, one of those devices not mentioned was the Nokia Lumia 929, destined for Verizon. That device is said to be in carrier testing right now and it could be released between Thanksgiving and the beginning of next year.

The Nokia Lumia 929 is a custom phone built for Verizon, featuring a 5-inch 1080P AMOLED display. It’s in many ways just a bigger, more powerful Lumia 928, as it features a Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 CPU and updated internals.

Now, high quality photos of this device have been revealed to Windows Phone Central and we have the inside scoop of Verizon’s flagship Lumia.

We recently looked at a leak of the Verizon Lumia 929 from Nokia, which didn't make the event in Abu Dhabi. Nokia World has come and gone but that doesn’t mean the Finnish company doesn’t have more devices up their sleeves. One of those is the Lumia 929, a custom phone for Verizon that is due to land any time between now and Q1. Not much is known about the Lumia 929 except that it is probably a 5-inch 1080P device running a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and a 20 MP rear PureView camera.

Now, a leaker in the Windows Phone Central forums who goes by the name of ‘Falorin’ has posted a new photo and even a hands on vide with the mystery device.

We're only hours away from Nokia's event in Abu Dhabi tomorrow when we expect the company to announce multiple devices. One of them is the Lumia 1520, which has now more of its protective covers leaked online. Twitter profile Evleaks (has been accurate in the past) has published the above image on the micro-blogging service, showing off some cases in black, red and white.

Nokia World will soon be upon us (in fact, we're already on our way out there), but that's not halting leaks and more from being published. Evleaks, a Twitter profile which has been fairly accurate in the past, has posted what are reported to be specifications of the Lumia 1520 - aka. "Nokia Bandit." While we'll be able to bring you the announcements, hands-on and more from the event floor, what are we looking at here?

Huawei doesn’t make big splashes in the Windows Phone world, but they’re still very committed to the platform. Just yesterday we shared the news that Huawei was still on board with Windows Phone, despite Microsoft buying Nokia’s hardware division. So far they’ve produced two devices – the Ascend W1 and more recently the Ascend W2. But there’s a third on the horizon, the Ascend W3.
